NUBM08E the new 9-10 watter

I'd recommend you not to do that. They're one of the companies that hates the fact there are laser hobbyists out there and one of the points of these new blocks is to be tamper proof. If they see we're wanting to buy them things could get worse with the next generation of lasers.

You could always go about it giving them the assumption you're a product developer. Probably work for any laser manufacturer.

"Hey ____, I'm looking for high power diodes to develop a new lighting product, and I was wondering if you could sell me any of the high power diodes you place in your NUBM08E projector blocks...."

Just make sure to tell them you want it for some kind of industrial or scientific use.
 
If your going to do that then don't ask them for an existing projector part, tell them you want something bigger for a stadium spotlight, a laser pumped phosphor long range stadium spotlight and you want to use as few diodes as possible, 20 watt diodes each in it's own replaceable block for easy serviceability, tell them you are concerned with efficiency!
If you are going to the source, think big.

Yeah definitely. I wasn't going to say it's for a laser pointer. It's obvious they try to keep a low profile. If they even talk to new clients they are going to want a lot of technical specifications. Just asking them for the most powerful diode they have will go over like lead balloon.
 
I can get drivers on boards already assembled from China of my own design @ 3 for 41 dollars, if I buy 100 they get a lot cheaper, 1000 and they will be 5 dollars each or less.

Same thing with anything, they can make you 25 watt single emitter lasers, but for a dealer sample of 3 they will be 20,000 dollars.

If I had a little mote motivation I would talk to China's Osram people about 25 watt single emitters for stadium lights, maybe 100 watt, but I have to buy 100 of them to make it close to affordable.

The 8 pin chip on the SXD I just got has it's part number sanded off, no doubt so we can get a better heat transfer. :rolleyes:

I will be honest, I am not an expert, my father is a retired electronics engineer, he laughed and said : we can build these.

Anyway first we get our stuff together and use group buying power, then we can have what we want at a good price, but we get it together first.

There are like 200 members online here at any time and 15000 visitors, if more people would sign up we could do some amazing things, but we must weed out the dangerous morons, or teach them safety, that's the hardest part, do I want my 25-100w parts I had made in the hands of Mr. I don't need no glasses. NO!

Do you have a link or datasheet in reference to the 25w diodes? I'd like to have a look at them.

Sigh, that was a hypothetical scenario, go on youtube and see a multi thousand watt trumph laser cut inch thick steel, the power is available if you have the money, we are trying to get ahold of enough to enjoy without breaking the bank, the 25w I eluded to was a hypothetical scenario, but even if they didn't have one to offer they would make you a block to add up and serve your purpose.

The point was how to go about getting inexpensive technology to repurpose, we may want to watch arena style flood lights, or searchlights, they will go led if nothing else, but like auto headlights lasers may add to the throw when pumping phosphor, a shaped phosphor dome in a reflector may be more efficient and then it will be used in place of leds.

Just read the entire page and note the context next time, you can't skim through and see just the part you want.

Sorry. I did read the whole page, but the hypothetical part never was clear to me in your writing (still isn't). I can't tell your tone of voice or hand gestures. :D

I was surprised and thought there was a minimally known 25 Watt single diode I've never heard about. I follow the semiconductor industry for my education (and occasional job), and I felt like I should have heard about a huge jump like that.

Their tolerances are fantastic, you can drill pin holes for the cathode and anode and clamp their diodes to a flat sheet of copper and the beams will run parallel.
I bet they could make a near seamless diode bar stack.
But I would not ask for projector parts, I might settle for them. ;)

Anyway for the matter at hand, I think asking for a particular product might be better. Unfortunately, the more money an OEM thinks they can make off of a product, the more they're going to expect to see a big name you're talking through. Quoting a particular component they manufacture as possibly suitable for your application will sometimes get more suitable products out of them in a response email. I think asking for the diode they put in the blocks is probably going to be more reasonable to them than asking for something that requires significantly more work from them and hoping they contact you back.

Sometimes, with a mix of luck, a reasonable request, and OEM kindness, you can get samples to use for free. Never tried it with lasers, but I've gotten some unique sensors and components this way just by asking as a hobbyist. Asking for scratch and dent stuff is sometimes worthwhile too.

That said, a bunch of emails about a particular part from personal accounts won't go over well, so everybody hold off if ABarnett is going to do it.
 
I was just taking a look at the picture on techhoods listing and the diode block they are selling as a NUBM08E says NUBM41T1 on the tag. They often have the wrong picture for the thing they are selling. But that diodes like a 4 watter.

That 1st nubm06 you sent me is stout, I set my corrected nubm44 up and found a distance where the spot was the same area and put the 06 beside it and compared wood ignition time and burn depth, sorry no video, and I know I lose 5% in my optics, but that 06 was not defeated, I think it has to be in the 7 watt club by my educated guess.
 
I wonder if when exposed to air if they start to loose some power. I tested 3 of the open diodes I tested last night all hit exactly 5.5 watts with a 3 element lens.
 
When you get your next whole bock of 06, do a LPM test on them 1 at a time in the block with the Gball on, there is no reason to take it off except wanting to go needle thin up close and an add on lens will do that.

As far as infinity the Gball is pretty much already focused.

In the backyard or night sky a NUBM44 with a infinity focused G7 looks about like this NUBM06 with it's Gball on.

I don't see why they want to use a can with window then a lens when they are able to combine the 2, I expect future diodes to all be Gballs for a while.

This acrylic lens set is the cheapest solution I have seen, I am surprised it holds up, it must be some ultra clear acrylic, but I wonder if over time it may cloud, like headlight covers.

This is another reason I would like to correct a block of NUBM06 with 8 cyl pairs, because with the 44 I would have to make threaded inserts and buy G2 lens for each diode, the Gball already works.

Even to use the block as is inserts and lenses would be needed for the 44 block, making the bigger Gball blocks a win, besides I have the feeling it's what we are going to get.

Yeah I really like the beam the Gball produces. When I get this next block I'm going to leave them on a test each one at 4.5amps and sell it with the exact LPM results for that diode. That way there's no confusion as to what your fetting.
