I am onboard with the slightly better divergence and comparable power to the 44, my only concern is longevity, you say reports are good, that's promising.

They have not been out long enough for any data on life and it took a while before realizing the issue with the G-Ball diodes when removing the can but those are the only ones I know of that had issues like this and it is due to oxygen degredation when the dye is exposed. Oxygen degradation on the decanned diodes from what I have researched is due to oxygen molecules being eviscerated right at the emission point of the emitter due to the incredible energy density there and leaving behind carbon molecules that build up on the emitter over time. It seems that over time it turns into a runaway effect for degradation.

I would love to have a 44 with better divergence, the 06 with a G2 lens makes a line when focused at 5 meters of about 1.5 inches vs. 2 inches for the 44.

The 450 is attractive but looks like about 1/7 less or so as for line width, maybe a little better, a better focused line at a longer distance would give a better measurement.

Yea I would say the N450 is about 2/3 the width of the NUBM44. Comparing it with a NDB7A75 it is near identical.

So, 4.5 amps would be pushing it? I would use the solid copper back and a large heat sink?

Depends on the application. For a portable 4.5A probably fine. If for use in a continuous running application like CNC or light show I would stick with 4A based on my current observations.

Oh man for a second there I thought you ment identical to the NDB7875 wouldn't that be something, we can always hope a 8w comes out with 7875 divergence, I can live with that.
