North Korea's antics are increasing daily now.
Embassies in Pyongyang were asked to shutdown today, a sign that things could get extremely interesting soon? Or not....
I met with the head financial consultant for LGD on Friday. According to him all companies were asked on Monday to have a backup emergency plan in case a full on war or an armed conflict with the North were to occur. As you know S.K. has mandatory conscription and it would mean most companies staff would be sent to the front lines if they are below age 45.
Serious stuff!! Never in the history of SK has the Government issued this kind of Alert or request.

So North Korea is going to do a missile launch test, and then another nuclear test. Both are going to receive condemnations; however, I don't think it's going to receive any more significant reactions.

I'm thinking that the next step up for NK will then be to perform an atmospheric nuclear test instead of an underground test. This will give North Korea: 1) visual propaganda in the form of a mushroom cloud to show the world and its people that it is nuclear capable, 2) cause detectable nuclear fallout that'll attract a lot of attention and show the widespread effects of the radiation, 3) still not be a provocation that would reasonably cause a war because it's still on its own soil. It would also be an excellent way to bring back memories of nuclear weapons to regional players such as Japan.

What remains to be seen is whether this would cause a very negative backlash from NK's ally China, especially if the radiation happens to drift into China. Having significant amounts of radiation go into South Korea would also not be good because that could be construed as an aggressive act of war.

So we'll have to see...

NK does not have the ability to do any damage to the powers of the world that have provided the sanctions that are slowly killing it. Just getting any one of the UN nations to lift the sanctions will provide NK with its desired outcome. Imagine if you could not get food or supplies to survive from other than your own country. How would you react if you had the ability to?

... I would spend the $ I usually wasted on ineffective weapons and spend it instead on developing my country's agriculture and manufacturing? :thinking:
