Time to kick ass and chew bubble gum!

New Nichia 520nm 1W 1000mW 9mm Laser Diode | eBay

Part of the datasheet:

Edit: seems like it's called NDG7475T.

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

I'll wait a couple months for prices to fall. But I WILL get one, that's for sure!

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

Hopefully, they will get used in a projector. That should take the price way down

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

$950 is not a bad deal for a 1W 532nm laser. :D

I'll wait a bit and see if they fall in price, but if not then I'll grab one, even at $950.

Agree So awesome...can you imagine the feeling if you accidentally killed the diode? I would follow the spec sheet to the T.

Where is your sense of adventure? :D
Plot output power vs input current and fine the knee, then set the current :)

Yeah, I suppose "pulled" units from projectors will be at least one third of that price.

Murder fund, ARG?

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

Considering they actually made it to the market, this is probably one of those "first peek" type things at the diodes

*give it a few months with none to be found*

Then they'll be everywhere.

Just my thoughts... I just spent $550 today on something, there's no way I could buy one of these if I tried.

@ARG - Despite it being a good deal for DPSS, a $950 diode still is unreasonable :p

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

The time has finally arrived :D

Hopefully these will drop in price a lot more just like the osram 520 diodes :D

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

Seems like these are a lot more efficient as well: 1.5A@4.6V (14.5%) versus 160mA@7.3V (4.3%) for the PL520.

Edit: read the wrong field on the datasheet, updated math.

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

I read somewhere (madmacmo posted probably) that the efficiency was tripled. Seems spot on.

Hard to believe ten years ago green diodes were thought to be completely impossible.

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

according to this, it should be 6.23 times stronger than a 3W 450nm laser.
Or 2.33 times stronger than a 5W 660nm laser.

Hmm. I'm wondering whats the divergence. And what power we could push them at. Damnit, its rated at 1W and its 6 times stronger than a 3W 445. :eg:

Time to get a job...

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

So, if they are rated at 1W. That probably means they can be driven even higher right?

Re: New Nichia 9mm 1W 520nm diode

Who ever drives their diodes at the rated currents? ;)

Also, dont trust the calculator for that. I would guess that 3.5W blue is still brighter than 1W green.
