Hello all. I just joined up after doing quite a bit of research in the last few weeks. I just got my first >5mw laser, a Nova X125. The specs are pretty good, it has an average of 140mw and peak 155mw output.

I do have a couple of questions, however. The button seems too sensitive. If I push it normally, I am applying too much pressure. I have large hands, but I'm not squeezing the button to death. I have to back off of it a bit to get it to work.

Also, about 25% of the time it is projecting 2 visible beams and dots. It starts as one dot and after a few seconds, a second one moves out of the first one ( about 1" to the side at 20') I'm assuming this isn't normal? I'll be contacting Nova tomorrow to see what they say.

Needless to say from all of the good reviews I have read about Nova lasers (and their high price tag), I'm a bit dissapointed.

Its mode hopping, sometimes caused by heat but definitely isn't normal. I would contact them for sure.

I'm not sure, but the mode-hopping and switch troubles could be related as I just returned a module (130mW) to Rayfoss for replacement, it had a similar "touchy" switch and mode-hopped as soon as it warmed up (same thing, TEM01) - the end result was after a bit of running it to see if the mode-hopping was temporary the switch actually detached from the driver entirely...

Definitely look into having it repaired or replaced, especially at the price of a Nova!

Three little letters: RMA. Your laser is defective and Nova will replace it if it hasn't been too long.

Send it back for a replacement, you shouldn't have too much trouble with them on that. If it continues to happen with your replacement laser its probably your batteries. Under powering a green can cause some mode-hopping.

yea i only get about ten minutes tops on my cni aka nova style pointe.
The button seems to be touchy and it loses power fast, remember it has either the 500mw or 1 watt pump in it a power hungry unit

I'll try some new batteries before I contact them for a RMA. I'm using Eneloops but didn't charge them before I used them. Maybe they aren't fully charged?

Very possible. I highly recommend using standard alkalines over rechargeable when using AA batteries.. Rechargeables do not always provide enough voltage or current, so try it with some Energizers or Duracells..

Dude 2 beam? thats cool, many of us wished to have dual beam inside the same lasers.

Don't know if it matters, but they're AAA's

I charged the batteries up and it doesn't seem to be mode hopping anymore. I'll be keeping an eye on it though.

Thanks for the link. Some good info in there.

New batteries didn't cure it after all. It still seems to be mode hopping and the switch is getting worse.

I'll contact Nova today.
