This morning I received the datasheet of the new diode from M!t$ub!$h!, which is in preparation.

According to my contact from M!t$ub!$h! there is still no fixed date for its launch, But when diode are ready, he will tell me.

Because it is a confidential document, I can not share it with you, sorry, but here I leave some of their characteristics.

High Output Power: 1.5W (Pulse) 0.6W (CW)

• High Efficiency: 1.0mW/mA (typ.)

• Visible Light: 638nm (typ.)

• φ5.6mm Capless PKG

Given that it is confidential, were you even allowed to say that? No desire to put you under fire. However, if that's ok to say, is the 0.6W rating it's "rated" output? In other words, could it be comfortably pushed to 1W+ without issue? Also, any ideas on whether is multimode of single? I wish I had "contacts" for this sort of thing :p

It has all the marks of the M!t$ub!$h! 638nm 500mW diode. Maybe it is the upgraded version of the 500mW.

Is there a reason we use the word M!t$ub!$h! ?

You should use M!t$ub!$h! instead of the actual name because the actual names produce hits for search engines and web crawlers/spiders. We don't want "outsiders" peering into our diode harvesting activities do we now :eg: ;)

Yes, because them companies(brands) have an automated system which finds out how many times their company name has been used over a certain platform, and we use it quite often imo..
In their books we are "misusing" their product , so they would very much like to know what the heck we upto.. !!!
TO Avoid that ^^

So far, What we know is that we are just innocent hobbyists trying to do some fine laser tricks and not harm anyone!!! But they probably wont like it!!!

EDIT: Ryan... Beat me to it!! D:

Similar reps think alike ;)

I will eat my old sock if it's single mode :D

I doubt that is single mode, however in the datasheet does not put this data.

Beam divergence angle (parallel) CW, Po=0.6W 1° Min 7.5° Typ. 15° Max.

Beam divergence angle (perpendicular) CW, Po=0.6W 25° Min. 35° Typ. 45° Max.

There is not a military secret haha, anyway is the datasheet cannot make it
known publicly, but I can separate some data here, is only to share among
yourselves and to be the first to know.

Is the risk, but I hope not bring me problems hahaha

It's my choice not to put the brand, and I think everyone should do the same.

Interesting. Can't wait for an update. Doubtful that it's a single mode... but we can dream:)

To date single mode reds (5.6mm LPC's) arnt capable of excess of 300mW
I hope someone comes along with a vision of quad-mode LD
which has an emitter of 2x2 (forming a square beam overlapping) i could kill
for a sqare-ish beam with 4x the power and specs on single-mod instead of a flappy beam!! IF ONLY m!t$ guys had this idea before!!
And then offcourse i'm day-dreaming again!!!

I as well as others have had LPC's up at 450mW with 650-G-1 lens. I think I even saw a 500mW once. So they are capable of excess of 300mW you just run the risk of a shortened life or immediate death.

I agree with you Yob, But it was an average estimate!!
Anyways Thanks for pointing out..
Still though !! It, would be cool if they follow my idea

EDIT: i too have had a 400mW red @597mA!! I know the drill !! :D

IIRC at one point Wannaburn was going to put together a a quad or tri lpc build to hit over 1W.

Unfortunately afaik he needed Dr.Lava's input on optics, and he's been MIA for a while now.

MIA thats too damn funny !! We should'nt be back-biting Dr.L !!

At combining two or more reds.. I've seen 10 of them knife-edged i dont remember whose thread was that!! Sorry but its been done.. Not in a handheld though if thats what u mean!!

Sounds like another open can design? Someone better take some macro photos of these suckers whenever they actually do make it out.
