New G7 lens for 445nm / 462nm / 520nm






In one of the pictures on your gallery it shows that 2 beam red Mitsubishi diode and it looks like you got both beams to sit parallel to each other. Is this just an illusion or are they actually parallel? If so I would like to know how you managed that?
 
I'd really like to see a comparison photo of the dots at a distance (maybe 10 or 20m) with G2, 3 elements and this lens. Could be with a NDB7875. I want to buy one to test it out but I'd really like to see what the splash/divergence looks like first.

I have some ordered from last week, the focal length is supposed to be around 8mm so I'm expecting the lens will be wider at the rear opening, but we shall see, still if it's a longer FL single element it has great possibility to extend useful range, YES the rear opening looks wider :):):)

I'm watching this thread too. Very interested in how they perform. Spent about an hour looking at the site yesterday. Wish that tri-beam wasn't so much $. Can't seem to get it out of my head.

The diode costs around $130 alone so the price can't really go lower.

I wish I could but the best camara I can get is my Xperia Z ultra which unable to take a clear shot of the dot no matter how I tried. The dot is clean like 3-element lens IMO. We ain't switch our 3-elements to G7 for no reason. :beer:

Edit: I may try with iphone 6 later.

Try underdriving the diodes to get a lower power or placing not-so-good laser goggles in front of the camera.
 
The G7 will fit the 9mm spring, it is a close fit but it will fit.

These were taken at 14 feet and focused as well as could be ahead of taking the pics.
Both lasers are NDB7875's the slightly wider spot is the G7 the narrower is the 3 element, they are close at 14 feet but the G7 is slightly wider.

In the top pic the 3 element is on the left and below in the middle pic the 3 element is on the right.

This is the same triangle cut piece as above only without the amber safety glasses in front of the camera and the lasers are off of course.

Why do they need external springs? Internal ones won't fit?

What I'd really like to know is how much splash gets through. G2's splash looks very bad with some lasers (e.g. NDB7675), specially at low power. I'd love if you could post some side by side dot pictures at a distance.
 
To be fair I switched lenses into each others laser and the results are no different, both NDB7875's performed the same.
The G7 was slightly wider in both lasers than the 3 element when focused at 14 feet.

Looking at the far field focus the G7 is pretty close to the 3 element and at 2-6 feet the G7 pops out a flame kernel a little better than the 3 element.

The G7 does focus near the end of the threads of the standard 12mm module.


Focused to infinity the G7 IS NEAR THE END OF THE MODULES THREADS, but it's working now that I am using the 9mm spring.

I was mistaken, the 9mm spring will work, it's just a close fit.

In my defense the focus is touchy, a tiny movement makes a big difference.
These G7's are a lot like single element - 3 elements. They are a little stronger up close but they focus near the end of the threads.

Now that I discovered I was wrong about the 9mm spring, it will fit the G7 I see that the G7 focuses just about the same as the 3 element, but it burns a little better up close, a flame kernel pops out a little easier with the G7 and at far field they look the same focused to infinity.

In my defense it was hard to get a fair assessment of the G7 without using the spring because like single lenses they can be touchy, with the spring it seems to be a little bit stronger 3 element type range of focus via of a single element.

It may be that some of what's clipped by the 3 element gets through the G7 and with less glass more power as well.
Now we just need someone with a LPM to test them and give us some numbers.

Agreed, we also need some pictures of the G7 compared with the G2. Great idea for the LPM; we might have a better idea on what the G7 outputs.

I was trying to decide on what lens I should get for my M140 project, something which looks good but packs punch. The G7 seems like a good choice because of that clean dot that the G7 gives.
