New DX Green MODULES

Finally finished my graphics job, so I had time to go and try out the greenies. All units are functional and have a very bright beam, with a sharp dot. Tried a 30 mW unit with two AA batteries and it was working well, until the beam died... I thought I had a bad unit or something, so I left things there and had dinner... a few minutes after, I went back to the lab and smelled something acrid. WTH!!!

The AA battery holder was putting out smoke and the batteries were bloated! Seems my tweezers put a dead short to the battery pack and that's why the module seemed to have died. Threw the battery module out the window to avoid an explosion or something... eew.

So I tried again, this time with a simple CR2 and success! The module works flawlessly and according to my tester, draws 136/137 mA. Picture below:

and as you see, even the 30 mW module have the big resistor... I wonder if I can tweak the pot a little to see how far this thing will go before disintegrating...

So that the first test, i'll investigate further the other modules soon.

One tested at 114mW with IR filter. Already built into a nice little host running on 1 CR123A battery. Still have 2 more to test.
 
Recieved a couple 5mw and a 20mw, the 20mw seams stable and output power reaseonable around 25-30mw, however one of the 5mw has the same brightness as the 20mw but pulses bright then dull, really slowly, maybe its not tuned right? or something is wrong with the pump? the other 5mw is dull and needs a good hacking apart and tuning! The divergence and beam width on these is amazing compared to the o-like modules. And both the 5mw and the 20mw had the big resistors too! Are the DX modules ir filtered?
 
What part of it did you kill? The actual laser diode, or the driver electronics?
 
My "200mW" module has lasted so far at 4.2v for about 5 minutes of on-time. The resistor and mosfet(?) on the other side get hot after about a minute of on-time. Without an IR filter, mine hits 130mW after about 45s, before dropping off to its starting value of around 60mW at around 1:30 to 2 minutes. I'm surprised how well mine's worked, since the beam is cleaner and thinner than my old DX "100mW Pot modded". The driver board is only held on by the diode pins only, no glue. I haven't yet tested the current that the driver produces.

Finally got around to testing that diode...
It draws no current. It must have been killed by over current/voltage.
Now I just need a new 9mm 808.
 
I've just ordered 50mW version and status is "Expedited Order Received - in stock"
Plan to use this module with LM317T current regulator. (in my 7 color laser project)
I'll post review as soon as I get module.
 
and another question:

did anyone ordered/received 50 or 100mw version of these DX modules? if yes, what IR diode inside: 5.6mm or still 9mm (like on 200mw version)? Normally, on 50mw version probably is just a 5.6mm (TO-18 diode), but on 100mw is possible to be 9mm (TO-5) IR diode (0.5w or 1w). If my guess is true regarding 100mw version, we have a chance to have better crystals inside and/or an IR diode capable to output over 0.5w (normally 0.5w is the limit for cheap crystals with 100-125mw output).

can someone compare crystals inside 200mw module with the one in low powered modules (5, 10, 20, 30, 50mw) or true 5mw pen (DealExtreme: $10.50 True Green Laser Pen 5mW) are the same or not?
