Finally finished my graphics job, so I had time to go and try out the greenies. All units are functional and have a very bright beam, with a sharp dot. Tried a 30 mW unit with two AA batteries and it was working well, until the beam died... I thought I had a bad unit or something, so I left things there and had dinner... a few minutes after, I went back to the lab and smelled something acrid. WTH!!!
The AA battery holder was putting out smoke and the batteries were bloated! Seems my tweezers put a dead short to the battery pack and that's why the module seemed to have died. Threw the battery module out the window to avoid an explosion or something... eew.
So I tried again, this time with a simple CR2 and success! The module works flawlessly and according to my tester, draws 136/137 mA. Picture below:
and as you see, even the 30 mW module have the big resistor... I wonder if I can tweak the pot a little to see how far this thing will go before disintegrating...
So that the first test, i'll investigate further the other modules soon.
