New 9mm 445 diodes

I have a batch of new barrels coming as well. Hopefully will be here next week. You really do loose a lot of that gap with these taller cans.:undecided:

@ DKlaser

I was thinking you could try to decan it but when you said that it was not giving much power I thought the same thing as Lazeerer so it could have been damaged.:cryyy:

Damn that's a tough one to swallow especially for a brand new diode with no time on it.

Are you sure there is Little light coming out of it.? Have you tried giving it ~300mA or so.?

Edit:

DTR@ are you selling them separate.? The lens nuts.?:D

I was thinking adding an option that comes with them if I can keep them in stock.

Yes it is putting out light and seems to get just as hot as normal but is just not making any power.... I do however still have the lens in perfect shape and it is installed into a module that will fit the modules that DTR is giving away with the diodes. I just machined the DTR module down until the lens module would fit it and still allow me to grab it for focusing. I will be ordering another diode form DTR real soon to replace the one I F'ed up.

ALSO, I am running the diode from DTR @ 1.88a and I am getting 2.5w

Don't feel bad, it just comes with the territory. Either you have killed some diodes or screwed up modules or drivers or whatever or you haven't tried to do anything. No one gets through it without some mutilations and deaths along the way. At least if they do, I haven't heard of it yet.

Yep it happens. You always want to just kick yourself when it does. I normally just run around in circles screaming for a few minutes and then I realize that all I can do is move on.:(

I just ripped the + pin off an osram PL450 yesterday, I stood there.... Stared at it for a good 2 minutes then started yelling & walking all over the place all mad :p

It really sucked as I loved that awesome dot shaped dot... Oh well nothing I can do now :(

Sorry for your loss of diode, hopefully your next one is super efficient :)

I lost a diode once. Never solder when you are tired/fatigued

How long of a run time would you get from a 26650 battery with these diodes?

Depends on the capacity (mAh) of the cell and the current (mA) that the laser draws from the cell.

Take the capacity and divide it by the current, and that gives you your run time in hours.

Actually to be more precise you take the mAh of the battery and divide it by the current draw of the driver. Since he did not specify one or two cells he may be talking about a linear, boost or buck driver setup. If it is a boost driver the current draw will change as the battery drains so you will need to take an average draw. If you are talking about a buck driver the current draw will also change as the batteries drain. But with a Linear the current draw will stay constant.:)

Managed also to get 3 watt out of the 9mm diode. But it is peltier cooled, heatsink at around 13 degrees C. Not sure what the final current was, but at the same distance about 2ft at 2.1amps 2.88watts. I just wound the current up till i hit the 3 watt mark!. At a guess i would say 2.2 to 2.3 amps

You should really monitor and note down the current, "guessing" wont cut it.

Not really guessing the P3 driver puts out 100mA/turn of the trim pot, but yes you did make me measure it :). 2.267 Amps for 3 watts.
