I was just going to update my previous thread on the Fasttech 589 LED, but then more and more pics came as I built and so I decided to just start a new thread. ;)

So I finally got round to reflowing the emitter on a star and finishing up my mini 589 build.

Although Fasttech states 1 A max, the original Cree spec. sheet states that the diode only takes a max of 500 mA. As the original driver in the flashlight was set at 1 A, I decided to change it. In order to do this I took a couple of 350 chips off a Njang 1.4 A driver, so I could get approx 700 mA. I also had to sand down the edge of the driver board as the flashlight has a 14 mm pill.

This was just a very quick and extremely cheap build. In total it cost less than $ 8 (with coupon code: BLF) not including the AW14500 battery, which was only slightly more expensive!

Here are some pics the colour is great, not as powerful as I would have liked but fun all the same.

This is the re-flowed LED the yellow around the outside is just residual flux.

This was the sanded driver board made to fit.

This was without the aspheric lens.

And with the lens installed.

Here I was trying to photograph the emitter whilst on and in low mode.

With a little less exposure it was clearer and you can see the colour well.

And the emitter, emitting...:)

Well it wouldn't be complete without some beam shots...

Ive actually done something similar with a 650 pen laser and a green rubber boot from a tail cap. It fits perfectly over an aixiz focus ring and turns it into a mini flashlight.

That host says the output is 350mA, not 1A like you said. Also how did you take "a couple of 350 chips off a Njang 1.4 A driver, so I could get approx 700 mA"?

What do you mean the host says 350 mA?? To be honest it makes absolutely no difference what the host says, I set the current to 700 mA by desoldering 2 chips from the 1.4 A driver.

So which two chips did you desolder? Did you have to short the connections on the board too?

There are 4 Amc chips on the board, each supplying 350 mA. You don't need to short any connections:beer:
