hey i just started and i had just a few questions.

1.) what does the mW stand for? and does the higher the mW mean the beter quailty laser?

2.)what does the colors mean? what colors do what?

3.) should i build my own lasor or just buy one? how complicated is it to build one? is it worth the time? also where could i buy the parts if i decide to build one?

4.) what kind of lasor do i need to burn things? like light matches or catch paper on fire?

5.)do i need any speical bateries for the lasor?

6.) i have about 60-70 dollars to spend on one, whats the best thing i could get for that?

thanks guys, really hoping to start a nice collection of lasors. thanks again! :]

No just higher power (brighter and burns easier)

2.)what does the colors mean? what colors do what?

They ALL burn the SAME, just have different colours and green is the brightest and red and blu-ray about the same.

3.) should i build my own lasor or just buy one? how complicated is it to build one? is it worth the time? also where could i buy the parts if i decide to build one?

If you want to build a dorcy jr one here you go.

Dorcy jr 115mw bluray

http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/272/94/

http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1214285108/0

stuff needed

803T http://xlasers.webs.com/store.htm 11.50 shipping 3 us

driver 115 ma http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/Micro_FlexDrive.php 27 US 3 shipping

Kit http://mysite.verizon.net/grall/darkhorsecustom/id75.html 45 US (aixiz module inculded)

Total 83.5 total with shipping 89.5

Cheap lasers go to http://www.dealextreme.com/ (bad-ok quality)

Good lasers http://www.novalasers.com/ (good qualty) or http://www.laserglow.com/ (great quality)

4.) what kind of lasor do i need to burn things? like light matches or catch paper on fire?

A laser that has high power? For burning matches 75-125mw is good. For paper you 180-250mw

5.)do i need any speical bateries for the lasor?

Usally high quality ones like Energizer Lithums do good.

But a standard akaline works good too.

But if you have the cash use Energizer Lithums.

6.) i have about 60-70 dollars to spend on one, whats the best thing i could get for that?

Making one for that price would be a tight budget.

If you want to buy one at that budget I suggest these two... http://tinyurl.com/3zm7ou and http://tinyurl.com/584b7t you'll need these laser goggles too... http://tinyurl.com/apfwqg and http://tinyurl.com/barezc but the thing you need the most is http://tinyurl.com/2g9mqh.

thanks guys, really hoping to start a nice collection of lasors. thanks again! :]

I can answer questions as they are basic even though I'm new here.

1) mW stands for milliwatt which is 1/1000 of a watt

2)What we refer to colors are the movement of wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum... That aside all you need to know for lasers is that certain colors are brighter than others and burn different colors. Red burns blue, blue burns red ect.

3)Refer to the help section and look at the tutorials

4)The didla is good first laser and can burn stuff (slighly).

5) Depends on the type just order the batteries online cheaper that way.

6)buy the Dilda others are mentioning. 200mW red laser around 50ish dollars it's a good start.

By the way, it's laser- not lasor.

Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
