I was wondering if anyone in the central FL area has a spectrometer or other means of determining the wavelength of a laser that they would be willing to use to find out the nm of my 3.5+watt IR c-mount. I've had the laser for over a year now and I'm really eager to find out what the wavelength is. I know it's further IR than an 808nm, it's not even "light red" visually at all, in comparison to my 808's, which I can see faint red even @ 100mw or so. I'm hoping it's 1064nm for obvious reasons (D.P.S.S.) but since it is mid to far IR I have no clue visually. Of course I could just try aligning it w/ a KTP but it would take a high thresh hold KTP to handle that much power and I'm simply not willing to spend that much $ before knowing if it's going to work or not. Can anyone help, she sure would make a nice green or blue at 3.5+watts if she is 1064nm. Thanks for reading!

You can get a usb powered, software driven spectrometer for about $300. Good for simple demonstration of black-body radiation. I used my physics professor's meter to find out that my 12X BR diode lases more a 408nm, than anywhere else! Spectrometer's are fun... I'll probably buy one before I buy an LPM.

How about a link or documents on that $300.00 Spectrometer...

Phoenix, if it as the "S-video" style tail plug, it's almost definitely a 593.5 not a 589.

All of the newer CNIs use a 'mini phono jack' type plug, not the older/larger 4-pin plugs.

Here's a great little spectroscope that will do exactly what you want for $40. Worth every penny. It has a very accurate scale you can directly read down to the nanometer.

I just noticed this thread and was looking to buy that same spectrometer. I know that BobH already recommended it, but I need some second opinions on whether it is a good buy or not. Please let me know if you think so.

I know a member once built one by putting lasers in a box with a diffraction grating and mirrors, and measuring the distance between the two dots that came out to find the wavelength. I'll try to find the link...
