My RGB laser :)

Hello everyone! I'd like to show you my RGB (RGV actually) laser that I finished building two days ago. It's made of 16x DVD-RW diode and DT0811 405nm diode in something like aixiz casings and guts from 50mW green pointer. Dichro for combining 405 and 532 is a turning mirror from some HD DVD or BluRay sled (I don't remember which one) and the second dichro is from DVD or CD drive (I don't remember too ). They are glued to aluminium base. The driver is simply a 3-channel regulated current source with blanking inputs.

And of course I hooked it up to my galvo scanners and, to my surprise, I got really good effects Below some beam shots and also picture of my setup and schematic of RGB interface for Popelscan software which I used to controll galvos.

DT0811 is the weaker one from Xbox360 HD DVD than PHR-803T. This diode runs at 80mA now ane puts out off the laser casing (after collimating lens and two dichros) 22mW of 405nm. After tuning it to white I got 8mW of 650nm and 3mW of 532nm, so total power of this laser is (only) 33mW, as you can see in the attached picture. BTW if someone here know anything about this power meter please let me know

I'll let you know when I decide to sell this stuff, but not now yet, I have to enjoy it for a while

Are the lasers TTL or analog modulated? I have always been put off using 405nm in my scanner due to it's lack of visibility, but it seems some nice colours can be achieved with it.

Yes, I posted a few pics on 4HV too It's TTL modulated - see the driver's schematic. 405nm alone is dim but with 532 gives really nice cyan (when I compare it to my 488nm argon it's quite similar). Then, when you have cyan and reduce the green power by half then you get blue. I was planning to do it in my system (fourth current source for smaller current connected to green and powered when 405nm is on), however I haven't done it and the results are good anyway

Interesting! Maybe I'll try this out once I have recieved all my laser sleds, planning on doing a little build and combining 4 red diodes for about 1.2W of 650nm red :evil:

I think adding 405 along with 473 is the best and most cost-effective solution for truly deep color saturation. I plan on doing just that when I finally get time to rebuild my RGB. I have 80mW of 473 in there presently, and adding a 6X would bring the white balance in line very nicely, not to mention adding depth to the individual colors. It's kind of a poor man's 445nm.
