My new 750mW Argon ION laser! :)

hmm... are you sure? I googled the ALC60 and it looks very small in size compared to mine :) I don't know :) as I do not know how gas lasers work. since this laser is rated class 4b laser it has to be rated above 500mW?

Wikipedia:
"Class IV Lasers in this class have output powers of more than 500 mW in the beam and...."

can't find anything about my laser on goggle :) no hits on the model-number :(
The dude who owned it says that it is a rare laser, if someone got some info about this laser I'll be happy :)

If you're reading that power rating off of a warning label, don't take it to heart. Warning labels are rarely even close to accurate with commercial systems. I have a 200mW green laser at home with a warning label that says "<10W".. it's definitely less than 10W alright.

here's a website that sells (or sold) your laser:

Here the power is listed as "up to 1/2W" or 500mW.. You'll only see that much power with multimode optics, though, and most lasers have singlemode optics since multimode has much lower beam quality and much higher divergence.
 
Try the photonlexicon forum, theres a few gas laser guru's over there.

aha thanx!! hmm... i called the dude now, and he was actually a bit unsure about the singlemode thing. is there anyway to see that on the laser itself?

i dont see my laser there, but the ILT 5500 looks very similar. my laser is ILT6500.

5500 spec
Features:
· New tube
· Air-cooled
· Power up to 1/2 Watt
· Light contolled output
· Linear polarization >100:1
· C.D.R.H. certified

About the label I have to agree, my 150mW green laser is rated 500mW on the label.. but this is maybe due to that the laser diode is running at 500 IR to generate 150mW green.

in the 5500 spec its stated:
**Single-mode operation is also available. Overall output power will be 50% lower.
Multimode beam is typically the “doughnut” mode. so if the 5500 is rated 500mW (multimode) the 6500 might be 650mW? multimode and about 325 if its singlemode.

Yeah :) hope to get it running... hope that my protective gear can handle the laser 200-540nm is the rating on my goggles. I have really no idea about the wavelength on a Argon :(

Since yours is a 6500, it may well be more powerful than the 5500.. Regardless, you've got a nice laser there once you get her aligned.
 
Nice catch!

Sadly that won't do 750mW as that power rating is only the label watts. But if it's multiline it should do at least 100-200mW (As E_F already stated). I thought those were a little bigger than the ALC60s? Or am I thinking of something else?

Maybe steve will chime in with some interesting info.

EDIT: Yeah, pretty sure they are bigger than the ALC60s.

ILT models repair and service - Ion laser repair and service, air cooled laser repair and service, air cooled argon laser repair and service, krypton laser repair and service, argon/krypton laser repair and service, ar/kr laser repair and servic

Maybe a contact with them might shed some light on the unit. You could also research the mirror "numbers" to find out about the wavelength

cool! I have sent them an email with my model number.

Very large difference between the lasers in the 5500 series!

the laser have optics in both ends...

This is the end that emits this weak violet ligth:

Unscrew that "plug." It is covering the output mirror.

hahahahahaha!!! i'm feeling like a dummy now! its like forgetting to plug inn the poweline.
It really makes sense! will try to fire the laser now! just have to wait for my wife to go to bed!
 
I wouldn't stare down the barrel at it, but it is mostly not a problem. It is not lasing yet. You will have to adjust the mirrors to get it to lase.

Read up on adjusting mirrors and maybe "shooting the bore."

Trying to adjust them, but i cant get the feeling with the mirror, im afraid to break something and blow the lasertube :)

connecting a voltmeter to se diferences in the current also, maybe ill get my beam :)
