Hi!

Finaly i have my dream laser!
Argon ION laser@750mW, I cant wait to fire it up! will post beamshoots later :)

I got it for free from a Norwegian scientist!!

It had some minor failures in the PSU, but I fixed it in 10 min. :) now I just have to learn how to operate the laser, I know dont' anything about Gas Lasers.... there are some mirror/laserpower adjustments that have to be done but other then that the laser is in good condition.

Sweet score! I personally don't know all that much about gas lasers but there are sure to
be plenty of other members coming by this thread soon to help you out.

Nice laser.
I have a similar laser but it's a Krypton Argon laser that also needs the occasional adjustments to the mirrors. Without a good alignment, there will be no beam.
It can be a fiddly process and there are a couple of ways of doing it, either trial and error and hoping the beam appears and then adjusting to get the brightest beam output. But the proper way is to monitor tube current while adjusting the mirrors. I have some documentation on the process. If you want, feel free to email me and I'll photocopy that part of my manual for adjusting mirrors.

Hope to try to start it up later tonight, I have tried it for some seconds and I can see that the gas is ionizing, guess that's a good sign! the laser have only 800 hours on the Hour-Meter! :) it's made to last 10.000hrs.

Anybody who know how much a laser in this class is worth in usd?
 
Typically that means the laser is out of alignment. You'll need to align it before you get any output. The fact that you have a violet dot means the discharge is being sustained, which is half the battle.

aha! cool! I only know laser diodes and violet for me is IR :) since this is a gas laser I guess there is no IR to generate the beam.
 
Continuous Wave- as opposed to pulsed.

I've never heard of such a powerful single line before though, lets hope you can find a way to get this thing aligned and lasing!

The former owner said that it was measured to 650mW, and that was not on full power :)

Since this is an ALC60x (or similar), 750mW is a number on a label.. In reality you'll only get 300mW if your VERY lucky. More realistic yet is 100-150mW.
