Okay so this will be my very first laser build ever!
So far i've ordered:

1) 405nm PHR-803T
2) Aixiz Module
3) Micro-Drive V3 Driver

Haven't ordered yet, but I'm planning on using jayrob's pen host as the housing.

yes good choice you may ask jay to help you out on the momentary pushbutton though that can be tricky

thanks to you! haha
i took your advice and got the parts you told me to. the Aixiz module comes with the lens correct?

yes sir it does please be care on building lasers it will get you addicted FAST lol

UPDATE!

ordered jayrob's Pen Host in Flat Black
and 2x 10440s and a 10440 Charger! (modwerx)

Hey. I am waiting for parts for my first build too!
I also ordered the same module/diode/driver.

Where do we get a test load for the phr ??

Be careful with those batteries, you want to make sure you have over 7V or else you risk damaging the diode. You're going to have to monitor the voltage on those carefully.

Ahh, so the min voltage is 7v
What about the max ????
Im guessing 6 AAA or AA batteries should be good (rechargable 1.2V each)

max on the rkcstr is 12v. Using 6 AAA's is not really practical. You could just use a 9v battery instead.

i thought the rkcstr automatically cuts most power when the batteries get to a certain voltage?
I dont have anything to check the voltage of my batteries with.
I was just assuming that I could just use it until the laser starts to dim and then charge the batteries.

The driver isn't going to turn off when supplied with lower voltage. You don't have a multimeter? How are you going to set the current on the driver? If you wait till the diode gets noticeably dim, you could already be risking the diode. I now have a PHR with a damaged window for this reason, and I'll be opening the can soon.

i dont have one. My friend does.
I'm using his to build my laser.
i guess i'll try to always keep the batteries charged...

i have some in the shop or you can use a 1ohm resistor to test the amps and 4(or 5 i cant remember atm..) 1n4001 diodes to get voltage.

i was reading the rkcstr Microdrive instructions and it says that if I under volt the driver, It will NOT harm the diode or driver at all.
so what did you mean by I'm risking damaging the diode?
