My first laser build!

I do see where it says that, but mine did damage the window when I let the batteries discharged too low. I heard something about the driver going into oscillations if the voltage drops too low. I'm not the expert, I'm just relaying the information from the experts (bob_boyce, CompWiz, BlueFusion)

It sure can, all though 9V batts don't tend to last very long by virtue of the fact that all they really are are 6 AAAA batts in a case wired in series. That's four A's, AAAA's are even smaller than AAA's

You could always use a host that takes the three AAA battery assembly and instead use the AAA's lithium look-a-like. They are the exact same size as AAA's but pack a nominal 3V each.

DealExtreme: $4.23 Ultra Fire 10440 3.6V 500mAh 2Pack

Heres what they look like. DX sells several different types from different manufacturers with different ratings and such, but atleast this will give you an idea of what im talking about. Also you will need a lithium compatible charger for these, which DX sells a wide variety of aswell.

okay so since i am using 2x 10440s with a rkstr driver, how long will my laser last?
people have been saying not to let it drop below 7v, which means each battery must be at 3.5v?
aren't the only 3.6v to start with?

they're around 4.2v at full charge, but they are only like 400mAh, so they won't last long anyway.

YES! finally!
So I now have all the parts to my first laser build and I will probably start building it sometime this weekend.
Wish me luck!

FAIL!
I didn't know we weren't supposed to test the current when the diode is attached to the driver x_x
It spiked up to 1 amp and killed the diode.
Time to buy another phr =/
Is there anyone who can get a PHR to me within 3 days? my 2 week timeline is now down to 1 week.

I thought you were using a rkcstr driver? It only goes up to around 400mw, but either way it would kill the PHR. You should always set the current with a dummy load before attaching a diode.

You have to meet a deadline on this build?

yeah. my friend and I are working on it together and we both leave for school in a week. He has all the things like the multimeter and soldering iron and etc.

we did set the current first. But stupid me wasn't satisfied with its ability to burn things. so i wanted to bump up the current a lil more. Turns out, with a little more research, everything was fine the way it was. I just had to learn how to focus better.
I was expecting it to burn like I see on youtube. People with PHRs pop balloons and light matches instantly, but I couldnt even light a match. and it took forever to pop a balloon.

So basically, I'm spending another $20 because I was stupid and greedy.
Lesson learned.

and yes it is a rkstr driver. I believe the capacitor shorted which caused the 1 amp.

i cant afford more things. I just need it functioning and burning haha.
If it can light a match within 3 seconds, i will be happy. But my last PHR couldnt even light a match.
