ok . so i harvested this 660nm (200-300mw) flat laser diode from a brand new toshiba laptop , tested it and was shocked @ the cutting power of this diode , so i.m.o it was deffinatly worth a bit of time improvising with what i,ve got .
had to build a head for it , so the pics start with how i harvested it until today
nxt i`m going to fit a knurled ring to the end of the lens housing , then start making a the heatsink .

...enjoy ..last pik shows choice of spare hosts i have ..

thx jerry , ive updated the info ...its a 660nm rated @ (200-300mw) i have varius unknown drivers but would really appreciate it if some 1 cud advise me on a driver that would be best matched for this diode ..

cheers

You could use the driver that laser66 is selling. It's very similar to the groove 2.

i,ve certanly thought about the 317 regulater ...but i keep 4getting that "simple is sometimes best" rule of thought ...i have plenty of 317`s here so it would take about 3mins to put 1 together , and i deffinatly would if i had a LPM 2 hand ...that way i could absolutly know what is gong to giv me the best results ..but as these new drivers get designed its hard not to think maybee my diode would be more efficient & output more power with 1 of those ....cheers guys

thanx guys ...i have plenty of 317`s here so i should make 1 up quick ...if i had a LPM to hand i would have allready made & tested 1 .but..........lol........sometimes its easy to forget that "simple is sometimes best" ...is lazer66 located in the UK ??

cheers

hey jeffrey , up to now i have tested with the current lense which i think is glass , the beam is very fine , which is probably y this thing cuts like i cud imagine a medical laser cuts .this starts cutting immediatly , it`ll cut a black plastic pen in half .
More testing with differant driver & optics soon

ok so...i havnt use of a lathe @ home so i had to make a Very mini 1 to turn this heatsink down to shape ...also my dremil is @ work so .....had to make 1 of them for machining the pill intp shape ....u can see the heatsink on my Very mini lathe & the pill sat nxt to it ....enjoy >

UPDATE **

built myself a LM317 , wanted a compact build so here it is >

so with 2x 18650`s outputs are 128ma - 299ma with a very smooth delivery , very happy with this .

that is such a compact LM317:D. any chance you could break down how you throw that together?

If you wanted to go even more compact, you could do away with the diode and capacitor. All you really need is the LM317 and the resistors, but it's nice to have them there if you have the room.

yeh...i wanted to keep the protection the cap n diode bring tho ...as it is it fits perfectly into the pill i hav .
awillis>> there aint much of a breakdown really , if u study the piks u will be able to work out how each component fits in , all it really comes down to is manipulating the legs of each 5 component , then soldering ..

cheers guys

Thanks ill have to give it a try for an upcoming project.
