I believe there is eye protection that has a broad band protection...

But quite honestly, I do not use eye protection for this build because I am not trying to burn. (concentrating on the dot at close distances) Just general pointing.
So you just have to be careful...

Yeah I have to say, I don't understand the point in wearing goggles, except MAYBE when burning (I don't always wear when burning) and maybe when working with high-powers w/ a sh*tload of mirrors around. Otherwise, what's the point in wearing goggles? You just won't see the dot's true color and power.

Man... I love this project and build, but I would have never even attempted it if rog8811 didn't show us how!:thinking:
The alignment is definately the key to the build, and is the most difficult part. In the first post, I mentioned a couple of things that I found useful for helping with this, but no matter what, it will be a chore to get it perfect...
For the green, I ended up using two small set screws that I can use to slightly move the green laser for adjustment...

Is the alignement still good for long distance (100m?)
i don't have access to the link for Rog's tutorial (got 404), so is it possible to make a high powered version ? it's a PS3 sled ?

I just clicked on the tutorial from Rog that I have linked at the first post and it works for me...
Anyway, it is a PHR sled using the PHR splitter cube. But the turning mirror from a PS3 sled is used instead of the PHR dichro.
About alignment, I have only tried for the 75' distance. And that is hard enough! I would guess that if you have one dot at 75', then it's going to have to be a really long ways before they go apart...
Even if you get it close at 75', you will not really notice that anything is off for normal pointing.

Hey Jay,
this isn't really an important question but I'm still curious. The outer aixiz lens nut, is that there with a lens and is it for focusing or is it only there to provide a hold for the dust cap? also did you set the current on the fly to adjust the colors, or did you pre set everything?

The empty AixiZ lens nut and focus ring is there just so that I can have a dust cap...
About the current settings, I just bumped up the current recommendations from rog8811 a little. But stayed fairly close to what he told me that he used. He has told me 100mA's for the PHR, and 80mA's for the 1239JL-54. But I used 118mA's for the PHR, and 92mA's for the red.
In the first post, I listed the power readings before and after the optics in the sled. (AixiZ acrylic - back opened)
But yeah... I set them ahead of time, and figured that I could adjust the drivers if I needed to. But the color blend is just about perfect! So I have not made any adjustments.
I measured the power output for you as well, because there are differences in diode efficiency...

Jay, sorry for the offtopic question, but you mentioned it so i have to ask... could you maybe post a pic of what an open backed acrylic lens looks like... i think i accidently MADE my lens openbacked... it looks melted from the LOC i had used with it. and i just got a brand new acrylic, and it only has a tiny little hole for the light to go through, and it has WAY less splash. thnx for the help jay. AWSOME freaking build BTW, like i said... i'd pay booka for a portable version.

You will not get all that in a much smaller box, I know my one fits in my trouser pocket no problem.....it does prompt the question..."is that a laser in your pocket or are you pleased to see me"
and you must have seen my first attempt which was very similar to a police torch but no where near a pocket sized one.I have said it before but will say it again. Well done Jayrob...

Yes, i have admired that build for a long time. it projects designs using spinning mirrors does it not?
and i guess i just didnt realize the scale of the box in jays pics. at first glance it looks kinda big, but then i saw what type of batteries he was using and it put it into perspective well for me.
