the entire aixiz case should be heat sinked not just the end.

like so

Well yeah i accept that, and once ive done the mods and collected the data we'll see where we are...if the forced air cooling is enough (after the mods) then happy days, if not then i'll look at doing what you advised...it wouldnt be that hard to bore out the hole in the aluminium and sink the Aixiz totally. Your photo has multiple diodes with no "active" heatsinking.

all aixiz holders are set in heat sink compound so the entire alum block holding the diodes is the heat sink. plus these diodes do not give out as much heat as a 445

Absolutely...couldnt agree more thats a pro setup..but i'm neither a pro, no a millionaire haha...what im trying to achieve is "acceptable" cooling...and temperatures, in the space given, now when ive completed the mods, as said earlier, i'll see where to go from there...once the data is to hand

wish i was a millionaire...

im also not pro, not yet anyway lol
that setup was a rush job built in a week, not a pro job. needs re doing really

the cooler the diode the longer it wil live - well cooler to a certain degree

Well thats a nice setup, i wish i had the tools to do something like that.

I have two small peltiers as well, depending on the current draw...and as im sure you know, they draw a lot...i may even incorporate them.

That's a sweet module! What lenses are you using for collimation?

Also, on the thread topic I'd like to point out the fact that in the projectors as they come from Casio, these diodes get very hot. Not warm, HOT. Casio rates the light source in the projector to last 20,000 hours, and some research was done in which temps up to 80C were measured. I think these diodes are FAR less sensitive to heat than other types, but for power stability lower temperatures are better.

Yeah i get ya..

But we all know, and what andy is getting at...the cooler the better...best safe than sorry haha.

Yeah, even though im going off my own topic..with the LD mounted above and below each other, you'd need some kind of prism to bring them back into alignment no?

Nah, because the output from those kinds of modules isn't intended to be a simple round beam. The output is multimode, basically a group of beams that are so close together they can be considered one beam.

Yeah but that one beam will quite large with awful divergance wont it?

Large(ish) diameter yes, but high divergence not necessarily in that red module since each individual beam is singlemode with very low divergence. The divergence of the final beam should be only slightly higher (if at all) than each individual beam after collimation. Of course with multimode diodes like these 445s each individual beam will have slightly higher divergence, making the final beam also more divergent.

*coughs* the diodes look 650nm not 445nm to me?

*coughs* read the rest of my post dude, I was referring to the red diodes in Andy's module the whole time. I only mentioned the 445s because your module has a 445nm diode does it not? No need for rudeness. It's no trouble to let you figure this shit out for yourself.

.

Just a guess, but those look like a couple of lenses from the casio projector... The smaller being from the big red LED and the other im not sure. I have mine all wrapped up til I find use.

Why would you isolate >each< LD ? It would be far more efficient to mount the 4 modules solid into the aluminum and then isolate the entire block from the lower plate...

Just mah 2 pennies ;)

Ok keep your knickers on, if your going to start swearing and flying off the handle, i'd rather YOU did let me "figure this shit out for myself" thanks.

I'd like to see the final output from that array, it looks smart.
