My 445nm (lab) build

sorry holder, all i have to say is very poor heat sinking and the diode probably wont last time

Nice build, I like very much the idea of a metal case. Just one thing... It seems like there are little contact between aixiz module & alum heatsink, lot of the aixiz module is exposed not being heatsinked, does this feel hot to finger? Remember, we don't like very hot things near the diode.

There is actually more contact than you can see..the Aixiz screws tightly into the aluminium mount and the point where it screws in is exactly where the diode is, couple that with the thickness of the aluminium, and then its bolted to a metal case, and that case is activly cooled, it actually keeps quite cool. I hear what your saying though, it doesnt seem to affect it.

The heatsinking is getting finned at the back of the diode to draw cold air through them.

so...

still not heat sinked properly

So? what do you mean "so"? , drawing cold air through the heatsink fins cools the heatsink....cooling the diode? or is my fundamental theory behind heatsinks wrong?

I disagree.

I'll take temps tonight and we'll see.

im sorry what fins....

looks like your cooling the wires to me

He says hes going to add fins they are not there yet.
I suggest you use a cpu cooler

i like to use one like this. i can easily cut them into 4 heatsinks.

but where would one add fins?

the fan is blowing over the wires not at the diode.

but hey who cares its not my build

The fins will be to the left of the diode mainly, and a couple to the right...and yeah i know its not your build...and i welcome criticism...but make it constructive please? back up your argument, and if you cant...keep stum .

Yeah its gonna be something along those lines...just smaller.

yeah sorry i know nothing about lasers...

Dont be childish, thats NOT what i was saying, i said i welcome criticism, but be constructive....do just say that wont work and then bugger off! offer suggestions or help Mr "laser_Man" ! , this a community forum where we help and discuss with each other a hobby were passionate about. Join in?

sorry i thought i did say... its not heat sinked properly.

if you want the diode to last heat sink it properly, these 445 diodes give out alot of heat

Yeah i hear ya, thats why we were discussing the finning, thats what im gonna do..."fin" the back of the diode as much as i can and then probably construct a kind of "tunnel" to channel the air over the fins, i'll then give the diode a good run and take before and after temp readings...once i have that data i'll post it up here along with pictures then people like yourself can see what you think, and offer suggestions

the entire aixiz case should be heat sinked not just the end.

like so

you have more unheat sinked than heat sinked
