Yeah it's a great flashlight because of the tailstand and you can unscrew the reflector for the "candle mode"

somebody mentioned this cool mod:
take this light: $5.80 - MXDL 3W Flashlight Silver - Other LED Lights
and XM-L led: $12.08 - XM-LT6 885LM LED Emitter 6000K White Light Bulb (3.0~3.5V) - Flashlight Parts and Tools
and replace the stock LED with XM-L. remove any driver circuits and just direct-drive the XM-L. it will have limited duty cycle, but you'll get some 500+ lumens from such a small host

I like the iTP A2, but they make a AAA version with an R5. If you don't mind frying the driver, you could try a 10440 and see if driver will DD it.

Here is a "AA" light the PROTON PRO it is a bit more $$ than you want to spend but worth every penny and I can get for less than they sell for on line so if you think you are interested please PM me and I will give you a price.
