Which do you think is the most effective dating website? Which have you had the best results with? Especially interested in ones that use some form of algorithms to match based on as many personality traits as possible. Would you consider using one if you haven't already?

Couldn't hurt to check them out. I haven't even seen them so I can't give out an opinion. I wonder what the success rate is on those dating sites. Of course they aren't going to tell you the truth XD

Required reading, why you should never pay for online dating.

okcupid wins by a landslide IMO. Their monetization scheme is fair, their UI is easy to use, and their match making algorithms work really well. Plus anyone who is on the others will almost always have an okcupid profile as well, because it's free. You'll notice a ton of repeats if you end up on two dating sites.

Also check out the okcupid blog, oktrends. They publish statistics from their site and it can give a lot of useful insight into online dating. Put some time into reading the okcupid blogs and optimize your profile, the effort you put into your profile will help you stand out among the other thousands of people on the site.

Success rates vary greatly from person to person. It depends on what you consider a success, and how much effort you're going to put in in the pursuit of success. Good luck :D

I tried plenty of fish but it seemed like everyone on there wanted to chat but never to meet.
there were also a lot of entitled women on there that had no reason to be.
I had no interest in online relationships so I left an addendum to my profile explaining my experience and found a girlfriend in person.
I'm not a bad looking guy, probably too intimidating in my features but it took 3 days of chatting with people in person to find a good one.
What I found REALLY helped me was to pay random women a compliment and then carry on with what you were doing. (try not to pay TOO many compliments during the relationship, it seems disingenuous)
If you notice someone has made the extra effort, I'd say something like "your hair looks really pretty today", the carry on shopping.
Some will look too deep into the compliment and think it's just you trying to get into their pants. Try to avoid conceited girls like that anyway, they are "takers". You want a "giver" ;)
It's actually pretty great knowing that 15 seconds of your time has made someone's day exponentially better. Just try not to be too effusive lol.
I met my girlfriend at the swimming pool, she was having problems with the brakes on her van and I offered to take a look at it. **Oddly I had already met her daughter (10 at the time) when she asked me to find her goggles at the bottom of the pool. She already knew about the shark spearfishing stuff**
I hadn't even considered dating her until we got chatting while we bled the brake lines.
The fact that she liked to get her hands dirty was one of the things that made me consider her dating material.
Going on 3 years in the spring :D

I've used eHarmony and match.com - Neither produced any results, get involved in social activities, even if a church, that is the easiest route, unless you don't like church going religious types, but the truth is, many of them aren't hard core religious anyway, if that is what you are looking to avoid. Some want it, I found lots of dates through going to churches but I never felt comfortable with the dogma.

Yes this is very true, in fact most churches encourage young people to marry and have children, so it's a fact that most of the young women are already hoping to find someone.

I've always had the opposite experience, volunteering or going to to social activities never yielded any results. I made a lot of friends, but never more than that.

I've found with online dating everyone there is gathered with one purpose in mind, which makes it easier to meet someone interested in dating.

I know nothing about women. In fact for something I've had a life long desire to become better at, I can think of no subject I've put so much energy in, to have learned virtually nothing. That said:
Speaking for a "friend"'who has studied this for awhile now, he says he gets way more hits on POF
More serious and conservative hits on Match.

Adam4adam and Grindr are quite effective only if you want one nighters. Okcupid is OK. But I get better results via Facebook. I was introduced by my close friend to my fiancé through Facebook.

Surprised Tinder isn't on the list. Not that I've done well with it at all in relative terms, but it does work.

I apologize for my lack of maturity but your comment made me :crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup:

Living over here in The Netherlands it's a pain to find a somewhat decent dating site. 9 out of 10 times you pay 30 bucks a month only to find out non-members can't even reply to your messages without also having a paid account. Free sites are just as bad. Women rarely reply to your messages because they get overwhelmed by the copy/paste messages from others. I've tried some international sites, but several countries between me and someone I may possibly like isn't viable to say the least. I rarely go out because of my disease, so I'm mostly out of luck on that part.

I suppose there could be other gay or bi members here that we don't know about, it's not that uncommon, we have had at least two other members in the past, but I don't think most would have any reason to say here. Maybe we should have a poll to find out "What's your $exual orientation?" Straight, Homo$exual, Lesbian, Bi$exual, Undecided. Would a poll like that be allowed? It might cause trouble though, I once started an argument here because someone felt that I misused the word bi$exual when that was not my intention.
