More stupid people trying to ruin the hobby

I don't see what's so wrong about what they did... I thought that's what we were all doing with our lasers. :poke:

Once again, pointing them at boats and planes. I do hope however that nobody ever gets in trouble simply because the appearance of their beam was "unusual".

The article made me laugh. It's funny how stupid people can be with their lasers. I thought it was common sense not to point it at anyone, yet they pointed it at a police helicopter. I think this is the first time a case like this has been elevated to the FBI. There's not that much to investigate.

I also think it's funny that the one guy fled. What will the wanted poster say? Wanted for pointing lasers at people?

Anyways, stupid people doing stupid things always gets in the news. Hopefully this doesn't damage our hobby, especially now that the Arctics have begun shipping.

The Arctics have begun shipping? I haven't seen any verification of that, only that they 'supposedly' were going to on the 15th. Anyways, that's for another thread.

Really, I don't think this is quite int he realm of "funny" because this is exactly the sort of thing that leads to media paranoia and bans.

We don't want people automatically equating 'laser beam' wtih 'bad and criminal', which is what will start to happen in the public eye if there are a few more of these incidents.

There's probably a lot to investigate, insomuch as what will they be charged with, and how many counts.

When officers arrived on the streets to investigate, the suspects apparently tried to taunt them by shining the laser on them. Memphis Police Department's helicopter was overhead and the beam hit the pilot and the other officer in the face.

This doesn't make me laugh, it pisses me off. Taunting police? And shining the laser at a police helicopter? How damaged are people?

I like the dad's comment
"As stupid as this was, I can assure that my son, Matt Mauck, had no idea of the impact that this could have. He would never do anything to endanger anyone or anything. That is just not him and he doesn't do drugs either. I am not convinced that he was the one actually doing this. We are going to see him this morning and get the truth from him."
His son is 33 years old. lol
Must live in the basement if they know he doesn't do drugs.:friend:
And how does a Todd Manz, 43, flee a rooftop. Must be pretty fit.

Well aside from not knowing if that comment was really by his dad (though it seems if it was for 'lulz' it'd be a bit more... biting..) most parents tend to think that their offspring are angels.

One of the three was probably the guy holding the laser, with the other two observing... Who knows if it was the guy who ran. But to have the nerve to point a high powered laser at cops... that's just unbelievably stupid. Very possible one or two of them was telling the other guy to stop, but that'll have to come out in court I guess.
