I've got a question of my own. I'm reviewing calculus so I can test out of it.

If x²+y³=x³y², then dy/dx is - ?

I can do derivatives of functions just fine, but this isn't a function, so I'm not sure :S

I'm taking calc and I don't know how to do that (but I'm not that good and have only been in it for a quarter). Maybe you have to do implicit differentation?

Here is WIRIS: WIRIS Home - Home. I think it just allows you to type up equations online instead of in normal keyboard symbols format. Kind of like the exponents in cyparagon's post. At least I think that's what it is.

This link will help you, cy: - Wolfram|Alpha

If you need to learn how to actually do it let me know and I'll help you with the process.

That site is pretty cool, are there any limits on what types of equations you can type into the search box?

I found Wolfram alpha a month or so. I love it, and look! No more maths help threads from me!!

Are you doing the SMC tomorrow, Rob? If so, good luck.

For those not in the UK and used to it, the SMC is a challenge run once a year by a charity, the UK Maths Trust, aimed at promoting maths to children of all ages. It's basically a couple of lessons off to do a test that challenges you to think logically and apply mathematics.

I'm curious, what kind of math is that you are doing? Algebra, trig, Calc?

Already past those, though I still have to take the Mathematical Analysis II final.

Current ones are Probability & Statistics and Physics II.

If you were referring to cyparagon then he's most probably doing Algebra or Mathematical Analysis I

EDIT: robjawesome, do you have MSN?

Yeah I was referring to cyparagon. But man I have a lot of respect for you and the math course's you're taking. Engineering major, I'm guessing? Possibly Computer Science?

Thanks man, I'm busting my a$$ everyday studying like a zombie. I'm at 2nd year of Industrial Engineering at UTN (Argentina).

@niko

I was about an inch away from that same major but:yabbem: I had to switch to electrical.

Have you taken differential equations? What was the hardest math class for you?

Hey Niko, I'm second year electrical engineering! And derivatives are not algebra, they're calculus.

I have the answers here for my study guide as well as a text book, but I need to know how to answer them. And implicit differentiation was the term I was looking for. Thanks, I got it now.

Cool :)
You're right, it is calculus (our "Mathematical Analysis n" ; 0<n<4).

I learned implicit derivatives if you need help with that, just shoot me a PM or ask here.

Why did you have to switch to electrical?
Electrical engineering here is HV, electronical engineering is low voltage.
Yes, differential equations was included in Mathematical Analysis II.

Hardest one? All of them. So far Physics I was the one I had to prepare for the most, but MA II's final should be the hardest (hope not, 'cause I still have to take it :p).
