More maths help (prize available)

EDIT: robjawesome, do you have MSN?
yup
rob8himself- at -hotmail.com. no pedos please

Are you doing the SMC tomorrow, Rob? If so, good luck.

For those not in the UK and used to it, the SMC is a challenge run once a year by a charity, the UK Maths Trust, aimed at promoting maths to children of all ages. It's basically a couple of lessons off to do a test that challenges you to think logically and apply mathematics.

Yeah I did that today. I only answered 13 questions though. How did you get on?

Why did you have to switch to electrical?
Electrical engineering here is HV, electronical engineering is low voltage.
Yes, differential equations was included in Mathematical Analysis II.

Hardest one? All of them. So far Physics I was the one I had to prepare for the most, but MA II's final should be the hardest (hope not, 'cause I still have to take it :p).

My employer is paying for my schooling and they said that an electrical engineer would be of better use. I don't mind the switch too much, they both have subjects I enjoy. I'm still in the first year and it can get tough working and studying so much, but its all in fun right?

So are you planning to go into industrial management as a career?

I answered 14 but realised some foolish errors when comparing answers afterwards. Our maths dept. always mark the SMC internally before sending it off, so with a bit of luck I'll get the result back tomorrow. From what I've seen, I'd expect to get around 60. I've certainly done better in the past though :undecided:

EDIT: you might want to hide or obsfucate the email address there - spam bots will love it otherwise.

Wow look at all the engineering majors here. Hahaha. Wanted to go into Computer Science myself but the math kind of scared me off. Always loved it and understood until Calc, that's when I got lazy and realized how much work the higher maths are. LOL. So now i'm a boring poli sci major. :(

What?! You don't think my warning was enough?

Someone has already added me. I hope its niko, but just to be safe, I won't go on webcam:crackup:

eidt: Its silvershot I think. So no old man stalker yet

Exactly, it's nothing compared to high-school math.

I don't know. I don't want to work in an office all day, but I'll never do field work, they don't pay s**t to engineers that do field work/research.

Engineers are the highest paid professionals here (and mostly around the world, I guess).

I guess I'll just have to go with the flow, I'm only in 2nd year (yeah... "only" :p), when I enter 3rd year I'm pretty sure I'm going to be called to work on some factory. College asks us for supervised X amount of working hours to complete the carreer.

High school math can mean many different things. You're only required pre-algebra to graduate where I went. But I took the whole slew anyway 'cause I knew I'd need it. trig, geom, precalc, and calc. I wanted to take physics, but I ran out of time.

Did/does anyone else's high school require more than pre-algebra? I feel like we took 'no child left behind' the wrong way.

My high school was the same way.

IMO the school system is really messed up, it seems like they are just handing out diplomas these days.

I took advantage of it tho, I got my algebra credit then used my time in school to earn credits that I couldn't test for. So all I have right now is a pre-algebra credit but I will be starting college calculus in january by testing into it. It screwed me out of physics tho, they wouldnt let me take it because I didnt have the right math credits. Chemistry was one that they let me take tho.

EDIT: as you can see my english isnt the best either:crackup: I am hoping that they arent going to make a big deal about english in my quest for a bachelors of engineering.

Where did you go to high school?

The answers for these in numerical order B, B, B, A, and B respectively. But why?

24. ...What?
31. ...What?
41. I keep getting 1/13.
43. ...What?
44. I keep getting 16pi/25.

I'm going to change the title to "maths help thread."

And I can't help you I'm afraid
