Well since I sold all my lasers recently I was feeling kinda lonely. I had a flexdrive, 445nm diode, host and heatsink sitting around so I decided to put one together.

I bought this host months ago. I think it's the same host jayrob uses for his pocket mini. ;)

DealExtreme: $12.83 Ultrafire 602C Q5 5-Mode LED Flashlight (CR123A)

And can you believe I've had this A-130 diode sitting around since EF's GB? :D

Here is a pic of a very small heatsink.

Due to the size of the host and heatsink I set the flexdrive to 600mA. I wanted to post this build mainly to show some of the newbies that you don't need a 2W, 1.5W, or even a 1W laser to have a bright, beautiful beam. Or even if you're into burning. I had a 1.1W build that I sold and this mini 445nm burns just as well!!

I love this host. It's the size of a Bic lighter, much easier to carry around than an Artic. Even with this small heatsink and host, set at 600mA, it will run a good 5 min before it even gets warm!! And at 600mA, there is no need to heatsink the driver. :)

Enjoy.

I was surprised that it took 5 min for the thing to even feel warm. That had me considering turning up to current to 750mA or 800mA. I think it could handle it but I'm not going to mess with it. An additional 150mA -- 200mA isn't going to make that much of a difference.

Yeah, some people like big, light-saber type hosts. I prefer something I can fit in my pocket. :eg:

Very nice! I have been wanting to make a small build. I'm thinking really small though like drilling out a little aluminum rod and putting in an axis a flex and a 10280. Pretty low power though like 250 mw.

Very nice!

:thanks:

Yeah, I prefer the small builds. ;) I really like the size of jayrobs 10280 keychain.

I like your idea, true DIY.

Yeah i would much rather have a small build even if battery life is short and it gets hot quick. It's not like you really ever need to shine for 10 plus minutes straight right? And batteries are made to recharge.

Don't get me wrong, a nice powerful big laser is nice, but with a small one you can just whip it out and point at something or light fireworks or cigarettes or even an emergency survival situation fire. Also it is just awesome to have something so small but so powerful.

You just can't carry a big ole laser around like that.

very cool build, is it using the CR123A?
+1 for the cool, 1st beam shot pic :)

just don't do it when the cigarette is already on your mouth, please.
haha

Nice build!
Got to love the mini's like that....my 10440 build is one of my favorites...It's also great to break out and show people who have never seen one....All that power coming from such a small package always gets a big WOW!

Thanks, yes, a CR123A

Nice build!

10440 is a very small build. I like this one because for me it combines the best of all worlds. It's small as a lighter, but big enough that I can run decent mA's through it, and runs of a CR123A for some decent run times. :D

Nice build always did love tiny hosts. If you ever wanna sell some lasers shoot me a pm I'm always looking for new stuff :)

I have 3 of jayrob's 10280 keychain's and they are awesome. If you need one let me know? I have a couple of the host's and a handfull of those hard to find 10280 batteries ill give you a good deal seeing were from the same state and all hehe

Someone has expressed interest in this one but if that falls through, would you be interested?

Yeah, I love those host but I don't think I would build a 445nm with one. I'd probably put a LCC, LOC, or 6X blu-ray in one of those. Maybe sometime in the future. :D

Kevlar Hi, I'm interested in the 445nm laser.
Do you have a private message.
