I will try one tonight but if you run the driver close to the minimum it needs to stay in regulation(VF+drop out) when you put it in the lab unit it should extend out the duty cycle and maybe even run continuously unsinked. Probably somewhere between 6-7V. If that is the case then you could go back and forth with the whole module I sent you and only have to worry about the diodes duty cycle with the heatsinking you provide for it.:beer:

A new question appeared!

I read in another thread with a very similar build to mine, that no battery contact board will be delivered with the hosts from SL.

So will I need one for my build? When yes, could I make one myself?

I don`t really want to spend 25 $ for shipping for an item for 4.99 $ !

They do not come with contact boards. You could desolder components off of a 16.8mm round driver and use that as a contact board. You could of course make one yourself if you feel you are up to it. Hell, there are no limitations to the alterations you can do to your own laser.

I have found making contact boards for more expensive than it is worth in the past though so I would suggest grabbing a cheap driver off of FastTech and then just removing the components.

Here is a cheap one that would do the trick(what I recommend):
$1.19 1* AMC7135 LED Flashlight Driver Circuit - 2.7V~6V / 350mA constant current / 17mm / customizable to 4* AMC7135 at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
For quick shipping on that driver it will cost a dollar or two for two weeks or less shipping time or you can roll with the 30 day free shipping.

This one is totally free shipping but takes about 30 days to ship.

Hi!

So the tricky part is that it has to be a round 16,8 mm board?

Maybe it`s possible to take the battery contact board of a cheap flashlight?

Are the 16,8 mm common or rather special to the survivallaser hosts?

16.8mm drivers are common to CREE flashlights. You may be able to get a larger contact board and then grind it down. Basically the driver board I linked you too is the easiest way to do it if you don't have tools. Or you can ask Lazeerer if he would sell you one single X-Blank though I know that would be more expensive than the FastTech driver.

My thoughts were to take it out of a flashlight I have lying around at home maybe.

Or buy one at low costs.

I´m trying to avoid shipping from US, because I don`t want to wait any longer! :o

Maybe you can give me a hint what type of cree flashlight will have the suitable driver board inside?

There is one other option that I know of and it's right here I sell contact boards for $1.00 with out a spring and $2.00 for one with a gold plated spring.

Hi!

I was overthinking the whole thing!

Maybe I will send the stainless steel hst back to Survivallaser, to get started from the beginnig!

Maybe a Maglite build!

I have the Maglite 2C in mind, because I read, that 2 18650 will fit in this host!
(when the spare bulp is removed)


So will the module from DTR fit in the Maglite 2C?

The driver is already in the module, so will I need more than a suitable heatsink for a Maglite 2C build?

A maglight build would be massively superior to the SL SS host. The heatsink would be significantly larger so your duty cycle would be longer. You could ask good ol' FlaminPyro to whip you up a heatsink so he can even make the contact board fit perfectly. I do believe there would have to be some modification to the Mag to get it to work though I have never tried such a thing. For all I know FP may be willing to prep the Mag as well.

I have had him make me a heatsink in the past and he is making me several more heatsinks now. His work is unparallelled. (no intention of being a kissass just stating the truth)

Hm, maybe I will keep the SS host, I have a BR-Burning Device standig around not in use for month! :thinking:

It`s a 12x burning device, so maybe I will be in need of a host anyway some day! :whistle:

Hi guys!

So as planned I will now build a Maglite 2,5 W laser!

I will get the heatsink for the Maglite from Jayrob! So I can choose now either to take a 2C or 2D, since the Heatsink will fit both of them!

But anyway thanks to ApexProxy for supporting me all the time here and thanks to Flaminpyro for offering help about the batterie contact board!

So I will have to wait a little longer now, but I think I won`t regret it, because I think the Maglite build will be more healthy for my diode than in the SS host!

And I`m going to heatsink the driver with a little plate of copper!

I think that should get me an easy 2 min duty cycle, not that I will need it every time I turn it on, but It`s good to know I could! :wave:

Even better if in a mag host just sink the driver to the back of the heatsink like this. If you want I can put leads between the driver and diode for you if you have not already got the module.:beer:

With a Mag heatsink I would guess a 5+ minute duty cycle would be possible. If memory serves the heatsink is straight up giant and very capable of absorbing many times more heat than the C6 size heatsink in the SL SS.

Wow! Up to 5 min! Not bad!

My choice will be the Mag-Lite 2C!

I will check tomorrow if the 18650`s I already have will fit, if not I will have to get new ones anyway!
