Making Ilda wireless

Well, he'd also need to make sure the signal is good, and that he has enough wires for the connector. Sure, he could fit (R, G, B, X, Y, GND), but what about interlocks and other controls? He also need 2x DB25 connectors for connecting from source to destination, and also to ensure that the signal being carried is sufficient that it isn't too far degraded from distance. I don't even know if it's good to the DB25 cable itself that long. Personally, I'd just attach the RIYA to the projector and use the ethernet for the IP data it supposedly supports, not sending the ILDA connector signals over.
 





Just remember kiddos, wireless relinquishes any chance of a true safety shutter, and thus you should mask your scanners to prevent, um, inadvertant audience exposure.

A friend of mine built true wireless ILDA in 1995. I'll ask if he has the schematics as he used the unlicensed portion of the 902-928 wireless band. He used it to cross the Missispippi river for casino shows. He had a parity check, a loss of carrier check, and a CRC check to confirm the interlocks. The fact that he worked on telephone michrowave gear implied that he had a idea of how to do it using codec chips. 1U tall 19" rack on each end. Even though it was 8 bit, for beam shows it was just fine.

Since he made megadollars doing commercial laser shows, then started leasing cell sites, means he may not care about placing it in the public domain.

Actually in my case I use wireless connectivity as a means to avoid running multiple lengthy runs from FOH. I still run just one interlock line that controls all of my interlocks via a small interface I built. I was able to get a spool of 500' of 4-conductor telephone line for next to nothing, using it I can handle just about any venue size and still sit at FOH or anywhere that the view is good.

I have used 3 FB3's over a 95m single CAT5 cable with USB2 converters at both ends. Lasers respond instantly - no time lags and the FB3's stayed on-line, no glitches all night long. It was as though I was sitting right next to the ILDA cables but I was in a FOH tent on the other side of a field!!
 
I am not sure but they are not stressed at all as the activity LED is not even showing. They are full USB2 so I guess the data rate is minimal compared with their capacity. The cable was a multicore with DMX and FOH digital audio on the run which was suspend overhead.
 
Judging by the cost those are definitely buffered.. nice solution though. On closer inpection what I posted wouldn't work at all lol..

Found these at Micro Center not long ago..Buffered, not as long of a range at 160ft (although I wonder just how firm the limit is) but MUCH cheaper: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0294428

Now I'm definitely going to have to try them out.. in theory a USB hub should eliminate the need for multiple ports if the FB3s don't hog too much bandwidth..

Works fine, but does the thing EF was talking about....it will blink off for less than a second then come back....I upgraded the router to the one seen in that pic and it all but eliminated that problem...but that is a expensive router.

The laser sends out a wireless network.....any laptop with pangolin installed can connect to that wireless network and control the lasers. I also have lightjockey running a DMX LED wall wirelessly through the laser.

hey, whats the model of that router and is the latency over ethernet/wireless acceptable?
 
That build (14W of RGB) was for 2 projectors...those have been running strong now for 4 or 5 months... Im currently working on a 20W RGB :) .... Just paid for the 8W 450nm...... need 5k for 5W green and >8K for 7W red.... so it will be awhile
