does any one know what is in liquid fog wanted to know if i can make it out of something i have in the house ... or what do u use to make smoke for lasers thanks

1.15%-35% food grade glycerine to 1 quart distilled water

2.125 ml glycerine to 1 liter distilled water
(glycerine creates a 'haze' at concentrations of 15% or less and more of a fog or smoke at concentrations higher than 15%)

3.Unscented mineral oil (baby oil), with or without water
(I can't vouche for the safety of using mineral oil for fog juice)

4.10% distilled water: 90% propylene glycol (dense fog)
40% distilled water: 60% propylene glycol (quick dissipating)
60% water: 40% propylene glycol (very quick dissipation)

5.30% distilled water: 35% dipropylene glycol: 35% triethylene glycol (long-lasting fog)

6.30% distilled water: 70% dipropylene glycol (dense fog)


The only problem ive read is the possible bacteria growth in diy recepies, you may end up spraying more than fog into the air.. The glycerine can be bought at your local bakery, or so ive heard.

Thanks for the info! I'll use it at the next low-tech laser event. I'm liking dense fog, hope it works.
 
You'd be better off just buying 2 fog machines both with a dense fog fluid and then having a DIY chilled on the end of one.

That way you would have fairly thick fog in the air and at the bottom extremely heavy stuff which will give a nice effect :)
 
If you want to see the lasers in your home I would suggest using insense it smells a whole lot better than fog juice and is prob not as bad for your lungs, heck almost anything smells better than fog juice a beer/egg fart smells better !!! a feed lot on a hot day smells better !!! LOL

Seriously, if you are running a regular heater-type fogger, CLICK HERE to visit Froggy's Fog and take a look at a product they sell called "Swamp Juice". We use this product 4-5X a week at our shows and have found it to be one of the 2 best fog products available (and we have probably tried 20 or more different fog solutions over the years) - insanely efficient compared to other fog juices in regards to consumption rate, density of fog, hang time, and best of all it's 100% FDA compliant and has NO odor or "harshness" as well as less residual than anything else we've worked with except Martin's I-FOG (which before discount, etc is almost 3X the price!).

You can get a gallon of Swamp Juice shipped 2-3day anywhere in the US for under $30 - definitely a bargain especially considering the top-notch quality of the product! Another nice thing is the stability of the juice when stored, we have several fog units that go from van to van, show to show, etc and sometimes they sit unused for a month or so at a time, if you try that with regular fog juice you'll be throwing out or rebuilding your fogger regularly, but not with the Swamp Juice - it stays in solution and doesn't plug stuff up even after a couple of months of sitting. Seriously, before you DIY anything just save the hassles and follow that link, after 13 years in the music industry (5 of it full-time as a show owner/operator/contractor) I can honestly say this is one of the best products at the best price you'll find!
 
so i need to put this liquid in my oldladys iron hee hee i love it do i set it on hi or low i am just useing to see the vortex thing i make thats why i am not buyin a fog machine i guess once i see it i will anyway thanks to alll
 
^ careful ..... you risk two things, doing that .....

First, you risk to break your lady steam-iron ..... and second, after that, you risk that your lady become mad enough to decide that you're a good target where throw the broken steam-iron :) (not speaking about the fact that you have also to buy her a new one :p)

I was thinking about going to spencers gifts and buying this.

Fog Maker in

Has anyone heard if this works for such an application as lasers?
they also have a fog machine for pretty cheap.
 
Thanks Rob - As you know, I try to do my best to share what others have shared with me!

As to the "fog maker" at Spencers, NO, that really won't work for laser applications. That particular item is an ultrasonic vapor generator, the way those work is by vibrating a diaphragm at ultrasonic speeds, which causes water to form a vapor - GREAT for a terrarium where you are trying to maintain a specific relative humidity (or to generate artificial "dew" for the beasties in that terrarium to drink from) HOWEVER with lasers, the "fog" (really more of a heavy. large-droplet mist) will not hang in the air long enough to give you but a small glimpse of the beam (not to mention the inherent troubles with water vapor and lasers or ANY electronics for that matter...).

There are a ton of low-buck foggers from 400-700w on Ebay ranging from around $8 to $20, do a search there for "fog machine" under the "Pro Audio and Stage Effects" category ... The little Chauvet models are pretty reliable and they're next to nothing, cost-wise.

This one is a pretty slick deal (although on the downside, shipping is high, on the upside,your first pint of fluid is free): CLICK HERE - Dealmonger is one of the only "Authorized" resellers of refurb Chauvet stuff on Ebay, I've bought some stuff from them and never been disappointed!

The Chauvet line is build relatively well for a low $ fogger (far better than the "fog machine" brand sold at Wal-Mart and even better than the low-end American DJ stuff) - 450w is MORE than enough for a larger room, garage, etc to provide a nice consistant fog for lasers, parties, etc. The only reason I'm steering you towards something other than a used unit is the fact that many people don't maintain their foggers correctly, and if you don't, the output can be severely curtailed (or even stopped altogether) ...
