wtf?
you can't import Cigarette lighters under the value of $5, but expensive cig lighters are allowed? I don't see how those rules can make sense to anyone.

What the hell that list is just ludicrous.

Embryo clones - viable materials ??

Fish and toothfish (what exactly is a toothfish)

Therapeutic drugs and substances (guess everyone gets to die with no imported medications)

...Yeah... Sucks to be us. Customs opened a package of mine which had a switch-blade in it and said there was no concern... o_O

Damnit, Rudd looked so promising as well. He did do that 'sry we friendz now?' speech for the Aborigines though. Don't they get compensation or something for their family's abuse like with African Americans in the USA?

Hey laze_doctor, I MAY have an RPL-300 for sale after the ban is in place.

Ain't as powerful as a herc 500, but way smaller and a heck of a lot cheaper ;)

How is it going to be any different if I import it myself? Except that instead of just confiscating it they might hit me with a massive fine aswell...

Oh, and yeah just to clarify, I've got nowhere near 6 grand ATM. I've almost finished my software engineering degree -- average starting salary is 63,000/year. So I was planning to get it in a year or so.

Goddamn, did Rudd do this? First he puts some stupid tax on pre-mixed drinks (of which I am a consumer) and now this!? FFS!!
Smuggle it in an orifice. :D

You will NOT be disapointed with the RPL.  My suggested best setting is 6, I run mine at 7. And yes, the above post is mostly accurate, but I believe the diode runs a little more then 80% (running 2.4W max. from 2.5W diode). The beam-shut-off protects both the battery and the diode should the unit get too hot or the battery get too drained. This only happens for me if I run it on 8 or 9 for over 5 min. But at 7, can run for 10 min no prob.

I'm seriously considering importing an RPL-300 while I still can.

And here's the good news. If you decide not too, but later regret your decision, there will always be my RPL-300 up for sale to Australians :) (Since I'm Australian, no need to worry about import laws!)

:)

Good to know. I can't believe how I found out about this ban just in time. Check out the circumstances:

- I hadn't been reading these forums regularly

- By chance I was on the DX website (I'm hardly *ever* on there)

- I just HAPPENED to look at the DX lasers (which is unusual -- I'd never want to buy a DX laser because some of them don't have IR filters)

- I saw a link to a media article about the ban in the comments about a DX laser

I could have so easily missed it.

Fate, as it seems.  Now you know you better take advantage while you can!

Ace82, so if the RPL shuts itself off, what happens if you try to turn it on again -- will it stay off until it's cool enough?

You will be able to immidiatly turn it back on, but it will most likely shut off very quickly depending on how effecient it cools. Oh yeah, but running it on 8 or 9 provides very little to no addational power.

It was a little fate for me too.

I've been meaning to get into lasers for many, many years. I purchased a WL Fusion a while ago and loved it to bits (even after learning that WL prices are too high) and then went reading on forums.

I soon discovered there were all these new laws coming in, so I went crazy and bought all the lasers I knew I'll want later on in life. I've spent over $2000 in a few weeks, and I don't regret it one day :D This months spending may be 4 figures, but every other months spending will be 0.

Further yet they are banning lasers, but doing hardly anything to stop gun and knife crime, except telling people to call people who carry guns and knives "Cowards" !

The AU government is totally messed up ... I thought the UK was bad.
