Thanks for all the input! I'll have to get that re-soldered and try again....
Two more questions and i'll call it...
One...do you think that little flutter as I unscrewed the Aixiz module is ok?
Two...Judging from my 2nd grade drawing and photos....does the setup look sound?

It Looks fine to Me, and the hit the diode took might not have hurt it. Some diodes are tougher than others. If the power was still routed through the driver circuit when the diode flashed it will be fine.

Case electrical connections are always a bit fuzzy, but it boils down to this:

- red: case must be neutral/negative
- green (ir dpss module): case must be positive
- bluray, 445: case can be either, but negative/neutral is preferred

Green lasers are the troublemakers here, since they require the case to be connected to the positive end of the battery. Flashlights and such usually have the case wired to battery negative.

One way to circumvent all that is using a switchmode inverting driver, that creates a negative voltage from the positive battery voltage, allowing green modules to operate in case-negative hosts.

For good engineering practice, its always considered peferable to keep the case neutral/negative. Most green lasers you buy do not respect this principle, and its of no consequence for these low-voltage handheld applications. Most electrical engineers consider having any touchable part at non-ground potential to be ill design though, but then again, most engineers find out the reason in a rather painful way ;)

@ 532 with Envy - Your setup looks just fine and you've kept the wiring to a minimum. You can, of course, double your protection and use some electrical tape on the bare driver contacts to preven this in future. I've found that attention to making sure the driver buts up square to the diode not only helps to minimise these issues but also adds mechanical strength.

The diode should be unaffected as it was essentially bypassed during the short so it should still live a long and happy life, (well, long enough for 420mA!).

Yea I've had Triumphs and MG's off & on for years. The 53-TD is my baby. Having a British car means You always have something to work on in the garage when you would rather be driving.:D

How do You like Them British fords?

I've owned a Triumph Toledo, (similar to the Dolomite).

There are plenty of other, far more unreliable, European cars you could've chosen but quirky British engineering must have been why you settled for ours! :D

Actually the Mk II was a joint European develpment of Ford Germany and the British arm of Ford. The codename for the project was, "Brenda", if you can believe that!

I think they turned out a top motor and this car, (like the Sunbeam and MGs), are still winning rally and other motorsports competitions.

Mine was a 2 door Mexico look-a-like, bored out 2Litre Pinto block, (2.1L), with side-draft Twin 40s, (swapped out for Twin Webber's for better fuel consumption), road race CAM, over size valves, hardened valve seats to run unleaded, 5-speed Sierra Type-9 gearbox, Aluminium Bell Housing, quick shift stick, 3.0L Capri front struts and split disc brakes, Strut brace, strengthened chassis, anti tramp bars, Skimmed block and head, basic ported and flowed, Recaro seats, Stainless Janspeed exhaust, and no stereo because you couldn't hear it anyway!

Sh*t off a shovel! The only thing I regret not installing was a LSD, (limited slip differential not the mind altering hallucinogen!).

I miss her greatly!

I also had a bog standard 1.3L two door. The most basic in the range in Cordoba Biege! Brilliant contrast. I owned both at the same time and both won rosetts at shows.

I love classics. Shame I can't stop spending money on lasers now!

Yea the Mk II was a good ride, and I've been in a couple in Europe. I had a Fiat 124 Spider with a 2.0 L Lancia race engine running 4 single del-orto's was completely lightened for rallying. I don't think it weighed more than 1300lbs. I never took a trophy in italy, but I had a hell of a good time in the 4 years I was there. Drove it down stairs more than once, and almost ran over a Nun in a wheel chair at 2am in a piazza. Damn if She didn't spit on me through the window. Slid sideways right up to Her no more than 4 inches away. btw Nuns can curse very well in Italian.:angel:

Quirky is Well that's one way to describe British engineering:bowdown:. I love having to buy tools in odd measuring systems. I think the Mg has at least 4 different standards. It does have the stage II heads, and different rear end gears for the highway. I really really like adjusting the valves every 500 miles...Freakin awesome engineering.....Well it was built in 1953 with technology from 1920.:na:

something i noticed.

The PCB with the spring that you've got the + lead soldered to:
On the outer edge is a ring (word escape me at the moment)

That ring may be your negative contact point. you may be able to solder the negative onto it.....normally that outter ring will rest against the outter edge of the host's body, giving you your case negative path.

If i knew the measurements i could just make a full body heatsink for that host, and you could just scrap those extra parts and simply have a spring sitting on the end of your module for the + path. did you ever get that heat sink to fit?

Hello all!
I have decided to keep this in my own HELP ME post.
On a new, but related, subject I am now about to build my first 12x 405nm.
My Idea:
One Mohrenberg Host....same as this one in the build(nice one by the way DTR)

I am using the RKCSTR and setting it at 300mA
I'll be using THREE 10440 in the pill and hope that should provide enough voltage to cover the driver and diode.
I was going to make it case (-)negative...if I understand right it could be either way.

This is pretty much it I think...Please if anyone can see that i'm missing anything let me know. I'v done alot of reading and am almost ready to do the build....just want to make sure and get a couple more inputs before I risk my new 12x.

WELP nobody posted on my build questions so I just went for it. Not sure if anyone even has looked at the post.....anyways....HORRRAYYY!!! My first 12x build with Mohrenberg's Host that I posted above. I'll put up some pics when I calm down alittle from trying not to shake and stay steady as I soldered.(so worried about trashing this diode)
Thanks again to Morgan for putting together the 12x GB and providing my first one!
