LOC driver question

Hey. I´ve been looking for a cheap driver to power a LPC-826 in a 3xAAA host.
I saw these two on o-like:

- 200mW red laser diode driver / constant current /current adjusta [OLRDB-200] - $3.89 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

- 2pcs Constant current laser diode driver 80-500mA w/TTL [OLDD20] - $5.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

Both have an input of 4v. Although the first one doesn´t even reach 400mA (perhaps it could be modded). Are they even worth it? Can you show me some reviews?
Btw, is there any led driver that can get the job done with one li-on cell?

For one cell you need a boost driver and the most popular one drlava's flex drive has been out of stock for ages and he seems to be MIA again. I think the rkcstr driver can do up to 440ma which is near the max current for a LOC IIRC. You'll still need two batteries for it.
 
Hum.. I´m pretty familiar with the V5. I just dont want to spend more than i need, thats why i asked if anyone knew about a LED driver that was cheap and good enough to power a red with one li-on.

What i realy wanted to know is that if i could use one of those o-like drivers with 4.5v.
The Rkcstar driver has an input of 5.25 for reds so i cant use it..

I believe the o-like one should work off 3x aaa, but not sure how long for.
If I was trying to use 1x li-ion I would probably do either 1. A dx led boost driver for 1x aa/aaa with two or three diodes inline with Vin or 2. A more or less "no driver" method, a diode and resistor (like 7 ohms) between the batt and LD with a cap across. Of course this method will result in a slowly reducing output and isn't the best. 3. A single Amc 7135, but this will only do 350ma.

What I recommend is to bridge one place in the 3x battery holder and then put in two 10440's in the other spots and use a ddl/rckstr

WItch they say comes with 5 ohm resistors witch is full of crap. or you can just remove one of the 10ohm resistor witch will also give you more currant however that one resistor will get much hotter if you do it that way.

You can get 500mA - 520mA out of the Olike one with 1 18650 cell. Not sure on 3x AAA cells though.

Thats all you have to do to mod them.

So i must replace the two 10 ohms by two 5 ohms, or just rip one off, making a solder bridge right? But how do i know wich are the res. to swap?
For how long you think the li-on cell is gonna last, say 2500mAh?
Why not go with the other driver that already has a good current range?

I wont use the nº 2 and 3 cuz i want a steady current and at leat 400mA

Well I have rethought that approach a little bit since I posted.

You probably don't want a dealextreme driver because you will have a hard time finding one set at the correct current.

These would work good.

For 500ma:
CRE Loaded Ecommerce
For 400ma:
CRE Loaded Ecommerce

And then put three silicon diodes like 1n4001 in series with the LD on the output to raise the output voltage over the input voltage. I realize this is a bit different than what I said at first but I think it will work better this way.

Just know that this will be a fairly inefficient way of driving it since the diodes turn half of your output voltage to heat, but I guess it's no worse than a lm317 with 2x li-ion

Is it realy necessary to use the twree diodes? it´s not very practical to use them in a host.
Those drivers can be adjusted. But it seems like if i want 450mA i must use 0.12ohms res (aparently the same res to get 400mA, with comes already in the driver)
I checked the run time possible with with one 2500mAh li-on cell and it was 7+hours xD. I guess they forgot the 80% efficiency xD.
Perhaps i could use the LM350 or the LM1117 chip with 2 or 3 10440 cells. Do you know the voltage drop of these two?
 
You would have to use diodes because those are boost drivers and the output has to be higher than the input.

Like I said before I do recommend using a lm317, lm1117 or similar driver with 2x 10440. If you use 3x 10440 it will just create extra heat on the chip.

Oh and the voltage drop is like between 1-2v

Its best to change out the resistors to 2 5 ohm ones rather then just take 1 off. No do not solder bridge across one that you remove. Just remove it. But removing one of the resistor will make the other one heat up alot faster.

Get 2 SMD 5 ohm resistor in the ) 0805 package and you are good to go.

You could also use one of my 444mA driver(LM1117 based) and use just 2 10440's by shorting the 3rd cell compartment with a wire.

Oh i thought you were talking about the "200mW driver" cuz you said the o-like one xD. Anyways.
You said i could use 1x li-on but according to Vaporizer, the driver will only hit 430mA with 6< but not with 8.4 so i cant use two 10440 either.

I will probably chose this one cuz i want to use one li-on cell.
Wich res should i use to get 450mA? what´s the value of the existent res?
Will it have a good run time with a 18650?
Is there a thread about this driver?

I ran a LPC-826 off that driver with 1 resistor taken off at full power of 540mA with no Problem.;)

So iam not sure he has different numbers.:thinking:

What do you mean how long.?:confused:

I dint measure battery life at the time.:( But the Driver is Fine at 540mA. Well It still going as the person i sold it to is still using it.:D
