Just had a neat idea. I have a laser power meter capable of logging data, so as such I am more than happy to accept lasers mailed to me to measure and return, provided return postage costs. But it's not just me.

Many people here have meters, a lot more now that Kenom's deals are about. So I thought I'd write up a quick list of who has a power meter.

Now there's several parts here. If you want a full report, graphs etc on your laser there are a few people with meters capable of this. If you just want a basic power estimate / measurement without graphs or anything fancy, people with Lasercheck pens and Kenometers can probably help out there.

So: people with logging meters, people with basic meters, are they happy to accept lasers.
Here it is.

If you have any sort of power meter, just post here with what sort and whether you're happy to measure lasers provided return postage cost. I'll do my best to keep track.


BTW: I figure this is kinda a deal... People want their lasers to be measured and some can provide the service... so its sort of a deal. Didn't fit any better in any other board though.
 





Good idea! Maybe put the country in the list too, then you can figure out who is closest.
 
I like that idea. I have a pocket Coherent laser meter. It doesn't do graphing. I am located in San Francisco, Ca. Many people here have dealt with me so I think I have established myself enough for people not to worry about me keeping their lasers. If anyone is in need I can help. Laserzen came over to my place a month ago and we measured all of his lasers. It was fun. He has one heck of a RPL.

I as well would love to test out any laser that's shipped to me with return postage.  The more powerful the more happy I will be to do it!!!  you can trust that your laser will be treated with the utmost care, respect and TLC.  I will print out a graph of how ever long you want the data for. 30 seconds - 30 hours.

Oh and if it's over 250mw I'll even cover a portion of the shipping just to see your laser!

I've got a Coherent based non-logging meter (basically a kenometer)

i would gladly test lasers for people in the northeast US

my location is Emmaus, PA
 
I have a Kenometer, non-logging, in Alberta, I'll test any laser the Kenometer is capable of testing, free of charge.
 
DIY ones don't count, too inaccurate. Kenom's do as they have all original Coherent amplifiers.

but these are calibrated by coherent, and the gain is set with a formula. therefore (as said by knimrod) calibration and such isnt an issue. I compared my results for the S_KY GB PL-200 laser with the ones sent to me by Dr. lava, and they were about the same, give or take a couple mW.

you can choose not to put me down if you want, but I am still open to measuring power. heck, I will pay for the return shipping too (as long as its not a huge bulky and heavy laser ;D ;D )

More BS from BF...  You stepped right into his trap amk.  I suspect he was just waiting for someone with a DIY meter to post here so he could exclude them..  He's been pissing all over the DIY project from the beginning, spouting ignorant and inaccurate BS.  He needs to grow up.

But here's the real deal:  Since it's the sensor head that's calibrated by Coherent, the DIY meters are as accurate as the calibration of the sensor head and the builder who set the amp gain.    

It would also be a stretch to say that the Kenom meters have the original Coherent amplifiers since the gain stage of the factory amp is modified to put out a 1mV per mW signal.  It's accuracy is only as good as those modifications.  

I think they are both completely acceptable for the purposes of this thread.

Maybe someone with some real objectivity should start a similar thread....
