Lens?

Just did a test by shining a 405nm doing 580mW through an acrylic lens and it actually created/melted a bubble in the center of the Lens. I bet if I let it run long enough it would have melted completely through. My camera won't photograph it no matter what settings I try. It's really cool looking like an air bubble in amber.

Feel free to do what you want, maybe you have a glass lens and do not know it. But if another smokes his arcylic lens(which has been reported here many times) who is harmed by such advice?

I got my advice from a guy with a PHD in lasers and I think I will take it as good advice.

Dr. Chuck's advise is well worth heading...As it should be since He OWNS AixiZ

Also if your Lens melts even a little bit the crude will adhere to your diodes window, and you can not just wipe it off with a Q-Tip.

From What I can remember i was told something like this- it is a hot laser--true?
Does all that groovy stuff like burning balloons and popping matches- right? So plastic having a lower melting point can absorb some of that heat and even tho is has an AR coating begin to 'char', for a lack of a better word,- after that the lens is a little darker thus absorbing more heat- and so on until it just 'smokes' - maybe even doing damage to the diode.
I have no reason to make this up--ok? AixiZ glass lenses can be gotten from several members here for not much $$ and of course if you want ten at a time --AixiZ.com.

I dont think it has a higher output than the acrylic and the g-1 (35+$) has the best(only one element) but does have a good beam profile and when focused not to much of the retangular shape this diode makes. I you would like to try one PLZ just PM me your addy and I will send a sample for you to try.

have a good one

IIRC on the AixiZ site the glass Lenses are very reasonable. 405/445 is $10.00 and the 650 is $5.00

Which lens should I use? The 405 Aixiz lens? Normal glass lens from Aixiz? Any other suggestions?

Ive been using the O-like 405nm/445nm glass lens for a while now, Ive also run several A-140's in the 1.6A-1.8A range while using said lens, and the best I got out of them is 1.14 milliradian divergance. So the beam specs are not that horrid (considering this is a 445nm multimode diode).

Nice little lens that does alot for only ~8$ IMO, the only complaint I got is the half-threaded case design. ( I needed to either make pressfit focus adapters, or use my finger nails to focus the thing)

The O-Like is just A-like the AixiZ 405 half thread- good for 445 too.

They save on not having to ship as they are already in China-where they all are made,

did that come with free shipping and how long was the wait?

Members here (Qumefox for one) offer a better deal and ships quick from US like AixiZ(Houston) does.

Focusing any of them w/o an EZ(FP and Jayrob make nice ones IIRC so does Moh) focus adapter can be painful to the fingertips--lol

Ah I see.

well, shipping was okay (free ship, to canada, alberta), it usually takes them 1.5 - 2 weeks to ship stuff to me, so its not bad for me.

What I just do with these half-threaded lens is I machine the adapter to have a smooth hole, (just slightly the diamter of the lens, so its a tight fit, but not pressfit), then a larger hole and thread it. (3-4 threads, just enough to catch and secure the threaded half).

This usually solves my issue and screws right in... I wish I still had that adapter.. I seem to have "permanently" misplaced it among my mess :p

I just like the full threaded lens as its alot easier for me to machine adapters for them.

Yeah, I ordered a glass lens, but I am still curious that I may have just gotten a zombie diode or a freakin' amazing lens by mistake... because this is getting really weird. Anyway, of course I will switch to glass once I get it, but I've been playing with my 445 for a while now (had to recharge) and it still looks nice and bright.

Hello sally.
If you are representing a company, you should make it very clear.
Open a new thread here
http://laserpointerforums.com/f41/
and introduce yourself and your company, and expect to answer some questions....

Just posting in a random thread like you did is considered SPAM around these parts,
and can get you banned very quickly if you keep doing it.;)

Alright, so I think I found that der problem. My LM1117 would run at ~1.2A for a split second and then suddenly drop down to around 500mA, probably reducing the power to within an acrylic's range. I completely spaced the fact that an LM1117 isn't *supposed* to run at any higher than a good 800mA or so, and so it would overheat really quickly.

Anyway, so I disassembled my driver and I am now going to have to wait to get one of jib's (unless anyone has a spare they wanna ship me).
