I know that i need to use a dummy load (which i always do). But, for the risky situations, when the diode is already soldered to the driver, and you need to measure voltage across the R10 resistor, how do you adjust the current without batteries connected to it? It is impossible...

you can desolder the diode from the driver and put a dummy load back on. solder is great like that, it's not permanent.

or if you don't want to take the diode off, you could do a tiny tiny increment on the pot, turn it on and see what the current is, turn it off, and do another tiny tiny increment again, turn it on, .... etc.
just be careful because the pot is exponential, at high currents it will jump a lot more at a time than at low currents.

First, avoid "risky situations." Barring that you can do what Sk8er suggests. If you are using a linear driver, you can also place your DMM inline with the batteries. You can either hook it in between the driver and the battery or in place of your "clicky" tailcap.

That is a great tip! What i usually do is get a friends to keep the DMM leads on the R10 resistor, and adjust the pot until it is at the desired current. :)

If you are using a linear driver, you can hook it in between the driver and the battery.

I don't see how that would work...
Then again, i don't know that much about linear drivers...

I assume that a linear driver takes the same amount of current from the battery as it gives to the diode. so measuring the current between the driver & battery will give you the current going to the diode. then that would work.

you measure current in series with the circuit, the current has to pass through the DMM then out of it to the next thing in the circuit for you to be able to read it.

for voltage you can measure it in parallel, so you just put the probes on either side of the component that you want to see the voltage in.

Oh no, I got an email telling me that my order is on hold, and that they couldn't charge money from my credit card. :-/ I was sure I had money on it.Have you not recieved any money? :-/ I'm not sure what caused this, but apparently I'm gonna have to fix it in 3 days or my order will be canceled, so I will have to place a new one. :-/

Hi guys, another round of charges and shipments is going out today, you may have noticed. If GCO hasn't emailed you that your item has shipped, don't worry it will soon. Yep, Switch when I clicked charge on yours it got rejected, not sure why maybe some small billing address detail was entered wrong, try doing it again.

Are there still different current ranges? because i´d like to have one in the 32-200 mA range for my blueray build, but i can´t find such an option on the order page...

The newest version of this wonderful driver has BOTH ranges set up on it. You solder a jumper to get the range you want.

The best of both worlds ;)

That's right, but for this one the low range is 64-115mA, geared towards the PHR-803 lasers.
