Who says the 589 wasn't tuned down? Please go read the pictures descriptions and you will see that they were both more or less at the same output. The color difference isn't all that much but is there.

I didn't say it wasn't

I just wanted to know if, to human eyes, the color difference is apparent at similar powers.

Can you tune down the III-C? I'm lost here..

Yeah, there's an aperture shutter in the front that you can block out some of the light. It makes the spot look somewhat like a multimode spot though...

I love how narrow the yellow spectrum is, so that only 5nm makes so much difference.

I thought of that with the aperture, but it seemed a bit crude, ha. I know when that happened with my 532, it looks like garbage.

Zraffleticket, the pictures I posted above are a 589 at 5mw and 593.5 at 6mw so it is a fair comparison of the colors at roughly the same power

bloompyle, I totally agree with you on the difference 5nm makes for yellow. When I compare my 532nm's versus my 515nm (or 520nm whatever the nm is) there is very little difference to me

I also note that the 593.5/594s tend to have a wider beam diameter than the 589s

Pretty sure they have the tightest beam and divergence compared to 589..?
Could be wrong, but its from what I've gathered from pictures and descriptions.
The rest of your quote makes sense though :)

OH so thats what that was...Thanks for clearing that one up.

@OP, have you calculated your divergence for your 589 and 593.5?

I havent done it in a while, I took two pictures real quick. The first is the normal spot (and a dirty camera lens) and the second is the "cut off" spot. It's a bit blurry but it's a line.

This is awesome. I seriously need to learn more about beam manipulating optics.

What an exotic wave length, My god. That yellow color is so pristine and bright. Very nice pictures.

Laserglow lasers pew pew (omitted)

Its a nice laser and all but...
At just 8mW ....
Its a bit like telling your friends at the pub.

You know.... I got a horse.
But when you take them out to see it.
All you have is an asthmatic bangladeshi donkey who has been in one too many arabic pornos?

To a non expert eye that mainly relies on a wow factor you are compleately core t the laser won't be too much of a surprise to your friends. Obviously to the expert eyes that know the difficulty in having a portable 594nm laser it would be like a diamond, it is small but valuable.
It's not a 3w blue that is for sure, but than again it would be more or less like showing a Swarovski or a diamond to a peasent that has no knowledge of what is one or the other, he will like the Swarovski better, as they say ignorance is a bliss.

true true.
I understand why people want to collect color of exotic colors , such as the 638 ,589 and 473.

Don't take this the wrong way , its a VERY nice color.
But I never understood why would people want a laser that can't even lit up the sky.

To me , its kind of like understanding why women like SUPER TINY purses, tiny dogs and tiny phones :undecided:

I won't hesitate at anytime to chose 5mW unique wl over few watts of common wl. I've been on this hobby for 6 years and owned over 100 lasers but I found that high power lasers are no fun at all.

Well.. to someone who's waiting for his full set of RGB.
I'll very much rather have the strongest Red Laser, Green Laser and Blue Laser before I start getting my exotically inefficient lasers XD

I'd rather have a solid 5mW 593.5nm than a 10W 532nm. Why? Because above 200mW or so the danger level severely restricts how easily/readily you can have fun with it. There gets to be a point that it is just too bright to enjoy as well. When I had a 1.3W 445nm I barely used it except to kill spiders because it was too damn bright to use anywhere and I accidentally set fire to my curtains with it. These days I find 25-150mW to be the ideal range of safety/enjoyability, not that a 150mW laser can't instantly blind you.

^This. Although I would love to have a 10W 532nm Laser, I would probably just end up selling it as it would cause physical harm without even operating it - the thought of turning it on would cause my bowels to relieve themselves too quickly for the human body to handle. I would need hospitalization, and in the future you would not only need to wear safety glasses when playing with lasers, but also use a muscle relaxer to keep yourself relaxed and safe from a similar fate.
