Laser self defense?

If the attacker has a knife/bat/pipe/other short range weapon you should probably just run.
If the attacker has a gun or there's more than one attacker you're in trouble and you have three options.
1-Run and hope they don't shoot you.
2-Give them your money and hope they don't kill you to get rid of the witness.
3-If you have your own gun you can try to take them out.

:) wasn't expecting this thread to become such a big debate.....i'm a little proud of myself :)

if he demands for your wallet cant you say "ok ok!" in panic and act like your getting it out but really your getting out your readied laser.

Or you can try to stick the beam in their eyes while you run so they don't follow you. :-/

Yea kinda :D I used to do that to my cousin when we were kids using a water gun in his face, worked pretty well ;D

Some defeatism here, basically you can act like a pssy or you can try and defend yourself which everyone is entitled to.
Don't be a victim.
Here in the UK robbery at gun-point is pretty rare.
Gun crime tends to be the druggy gangs fighting amongst themselves.
Knives are big threat here.  And lasers beat knives in most circumstances.
Give me your wallet 'ok <pull out a decoy wallet and laser> throw wallet to robber> he catches the wallet.  Whiz! you fire up your laser into his eyes and leg it!>
If he gives chase then you keep on blasting and running!
After several hits he probably won't even be standing and have any eyeballs left ;)
Trust me, if some dckhead wants to try and rob his fellow man then I won't lose any sleep if he goes blind.
He can whinge all he wants but I know I won't hang around wait for the police or ambulance ;)

I'd like to see where its illegal to carry a >1 mW laser.  Cause these are in nightclubs and discos as well as the 5mW laser pointer people use for presentations.

Yeah i'm interested in whether thats true as well.
I carry my CNI 150 around with me loads and have never even thought about it being illegal. I know not to use it in a public place but just carrying it around... :-/

Many places have ordinances against the "open use" or use in "an area accessible to the public" of any laser. Most of these laws are based in the paranoia associated with "laser sights" on weapons. People will think that someone is aiming a weapon at them and freak out. This leads to a public disturbance and usually a public nuisance. In order to protect the pubic, the causes of such public nuisances must be restricted. Plus, people think you are going to blind them with it. This is another source of a public disturbance.

Inside a disco/club is a different environment.

dave

Hmm, no. No they don't. I could shield my eyes somewhat with a knife and slash you/stab you. Once in close quarters a laser is USELESS. A knife is HIGHLY DEADLY. Most fights are close quarters. The only kind of laser you could beat me with is a handheld CO[sub]2[/sub]. If you want to impair somebody's vision use a good flashlight. You don't need to have such great aim that way, and you can deal some serious bludgeon damage. A Wall of Fire is much cheaper than a high powered green laser.

For an Idiot, you have an unusual amount of common sense. ;)

hahaha a wall of fire....

another good way to scare someone is to shine your laser at them and scream FREEZE! in the most bad ass way possible lol. and hold it in a way so it looks like you're holding a gun.

Besides, pupils are pretty small targets and always moving in such a scenario. :P
I'd put my money on the knife guy if he's within a 3m radius.Anyway, you can't really carry the bigass wall of fire around anywhere you go just for self defense ;D But it would work pretty good, I'm imagining you'd be invisible to him, just a huge amount of blinding light in your direction, he couldn't get near you.

Or just point your laser and yell as hard as you can "FREEZE YOU MOTHERF#&KING C%@KSUCKER!!!!!!!!" ;D Using humiliating swear words is way more frightening and makes him feel like an inferior pos and become more submissive. ;D
