Blue to purple fade is an option. It is $20 per barrel for that anodizing, and if you want it glossy looking your going to have to pay an extra $5 per barrel to have them polished. I liken it to the difference between fingernail polish and matte spray paint. The fingernail polish is more glossy than the matte paint and is going to shine as apposed to the other way. Now some people prefer the dull look. It's up to you.

I would like the blue to purple fade for both of mine! :) Purple at the diode end. No gloss.

OK, this is not directed at any specific person.

I've recently gotten a MASS of emails/pm's from folks asking me to set the current on the flexdrives for them. It is my belief that this is because they do not have the basic necessary skills to do so and if that's the case they shouldn't be making lasers in my opinion.

You HAVE to at least have some basic knowledge in electronics in order to build a laser.

My host teamed with the flexdrive has taken a good percentage of the hard work required in putting a laser together. If you want me to take the time to set your current, extract your diode, solder your driver to the diode after mounting it in the host, well then your not freakin making a laser are ya? Your buying a laser from me for a fraction of the cost and wasting my valuable time. I'm sacrificing a SIGNIFICANT amount of time out of my life, and school time, in order to put together these hosts and gather all of the required parts and pieces so that you have most of everything you need to build a laser ON YOUR OWN. The instructions that come with the flexdrive as well as the groove drive, detail very easily how to set the current yourself.

There are 4 reasons I have not pre-assembled the groove drivers and that's 1. I do not have the time to assemble that many drivers. 2. I do not want to take responsibility for the drivers if they do not work (even if it's not my fault) 3. I don't have the funds to replace components from bad assembly. 4. it demonstrates you have the necessary skills to assemble a driver.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone or upset them. It's not my intention to step on toes, but at the same time it's not my job to hold your hand (I've got children who it is my job to do that with)

For those who have questions about the FlexDrive, these two links will be very helpful...

Here's a post from DrLava in regards to setting up his FlexDrive with the Kryton:

If you read down in that thread, you will learn that the silicon diode is not needed for a 3.6 volt supply.

For setting the FlexDrive, you can use 6 silicon diodes in series (blu-ray) Or, 4 for red. Here's a good diagram from rog8811 on how to set up a 'dummy load':

He's talking about the DDL driver there, but the 'dummy load' will work the same way for the FlexDrive!

Why?  it's small enough to fit in the barrel that's all that's really important.

I just wanted to see how small it is compared to a flexdrive. Since the flexdrive is about as big as a dime I thought it would be interesting to see how small it really is because it is hard to tell it's size when it is on your table.
