The driver is connected to the diode with short wires.  Then the wires are bent down so that the driver is sitting on the "head."  The driver is then attached to the head with hot glue.  The battery connection is a spring from the bottom of the driver.  You still don't want to unscrew the head with the batteries in it, but there should be no twisting of wires involved this way.

Hey dave
lol I put hot glue in one of my barrels with a 400mA rkcstr driver. The heat from the driver made the glue melt away! It made a total mess and I had to start over. lol! the lava drive probably runs cooler, but if anyone is using a high mA rkcstr driver you probably shouldn't use hot glue on it. Dem things get hot!

Yep. A linear driver, like the Rkcstr, generates much more heat than a boost/buck driver, like the flexdrive, does. Plus, most people give more voltage to the Rkcstr than it needs to work in an effort to get more power and for the light to stay on longer. Unfortunately, any excess voltage is converted to heat as well.

No hot glue on the Rkcstr ;)

Oh, ok, I thought it was teflon on the wire, it feels similar anyway. That's the stuff I used to use for console modding :)

And, yeah, Apexjr.com has some good deals on stuff. I've bought some stuff from there when I was doing more stuff for my home audio hobby, lol.

And about using my drivers with hot glue, yeah, I would definitely avoid using it with my driver! Actually, I wouldn't recommend hot glue for ANY drivers or ANYTHING since it will likely eventually fail after heat cycles (especially in cold). Hot glue is for crafts and temporary solutions.... if you need permanent, use epoxy!

I know that the switches from dealextreme are not the best. I've seen a pretty high failure rate from them and to be honest am not impressed. I am looking for replacements that are available and thus far have found nothing. There is also this one: http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15879 but to be honest, I think that it's the same damn clicky just replaced with gold plated spring.

lol kool thanks. Iv been looking at that glue for a week now. I wasn't sure if anyone else was using it. Looks like its worth buying then

The lens caps seem a bit big for the barrel, are they supposed to fit nicely? Also, what type of lens is in there?

You do have to sand down the aperture caps to get them to fit in.  I use my dremel for that and take a tiny bit off the lower bit.

The lens is just a basic aixiz acrylic

Anywho this is important.

[highlight]IF YOU CANNOT THREAD THE LENS INTO YOUR BARREL EASILY, STOP!! I SHIPPED A FEW BARRELS PRIOR TO TAPPING THE THREADS ON THE LENS INSERTION POINT.[/highlight]  I can tap it easily but it has to be shipped back to me.  Only a very few of these went out without me tapping them.  If you would like you can purchase your own tap and do so but it's not an easily found tap.  I'd prefer that you sent it back to me for me to fix.

ken these groove barrels are meant to use a groove driver as well correct?

sorry im sure you have covered this in the thread before but thats a TON of pages lol

can i suggest you add a video for the grove driver as well?

also i thought a quote of the videos would be good since im sure some people missed them.
