The Kryton Beast, pictured below is still in the design phase and I'm trying to determine if the host should be single or dual 18650 battery. If the popular choice is dual the batteries must be in parallel instead of series to keep the voltage below 5v. Let your opinion count.....

Pictures.

Oh I'd also like to state that with the driver that will come with this, the only difference between the two would be longer runtime. That is it!

Very good question Jerry. As it sits now, it's entirely going to depend on the diode installed. Since the Beast has both a 5.6mm pocket and a C-mount, it's just a matter of changing the orientation of the battery to change whether it's going to be case positive or case negative. The c-mount requires case Positive. A typical 5.6mm diode requires case neg. So it will depend but for most applications (requiring the c-mount) it will be case +

I voted dual. Longer battery life>slightly smaller size IMO.

You do realize guys taht those that vote for dual will have to rig up these batteries to be in parallel. I'm not going to do it for ya.

What is so hard about charging a battery?

SINGLE is the way to go. You can have one battery on the charger while you're using the laser. When your battery dies, swap it out. This way there is no down time.

If you use a dual setup, then you're going to have a huge down time while your batteries are charging, unless you feel like buying 4 batteries and 2 chargers.

+1 for single battery

Single.

Two batteries is unnecessary overkill.

I would rather have the Kryton beast look like a Hercules over an RPL.

Herc>RPL

IMO.

In that case a single battery would make more sense....
and as gooey said... one in the Beast and one in the Charger = No down time... ;)

Plus it would get rid of the battery parallel wiring dilemma... I can just see a set of batteries
exploding in the Beast b/c a wire shorted the batteries....
And with 2 batteries... there's twice the BOOM....

Re: Kryton Beast Design Poll (Be a part of it's de

Idea: the endcap will screw onto the barrel, right? Whey not make the beast the length for one battery, and then sell an optional barrel extender that would lengthen the barrel to the length of 2 batteries and use the same endcap? It wouldn't be too much work to make such tubes, the threads on each end will match the endcap and the barrel for which they will already have to set up the tooling, charge whatever extra money it costs for the extension for those who want the 2 battery version. I have no horse in this race, just an idea that it might not be too difficult/expensive.
