Knives from DX

The problem is that its a spring assisted knife so I would be extremely lucky for it to pass customs...

A question to everyone: What did the customs declaration say when you ordered your knives?

I can't remember. It was a while ago and I immediately threw the package away. Your country has a package fetish it seems like so it might be best to wait to see what someone else from AU has to say about spring assisted and customs lol.

Also, I should add that spring assisted knives are legal to sell here. I bought a 2.5" one from the local shopping mall last month.

I just dont want a strike next to my name and I dont want to waste around 9 dollars buying a knife that never makes its way to me...

If it makes it through no problems I will be overjoyed

im gonna be ordering it along with a DMM, some Soldering iron tips, a flashlight, some solder and some 18650 cells :D

I got myself one of these:
Smith & Wesson CK5TBS Bullseye Extreme Ops Black Tanto | eBay

See review that got me into buying here:
Smith & Wesson CK5TBS Review

And yes it actually is Smith and Wesson, not a knockoff.

It's damn cheap, and damn good.
I like best that the handle is made from aluminium, so knife itself is very light compared to what I've seen mostly. Sometimes I forget it's clipped to my pocket or belt, I can't feel it being there.

I don't have any pictures of it now, though. Sorry.

EDIT - Pictures just for the sake of having them in a post. Because y'know, post is worthless without picz.

Thats a nice knife!

I think im going to end up having a 100 dollar DX order...

Im ordering a XML flashlight which is 41 dollars including batts
soldering iron tips which are around 4 bucks
some heatshrink tubing, copper heatsinks and thermal paste around 14 bucks
led's - 2 bucks
silicone grease for threads- 3 bucks
a DMM- 15 bucks
a knife - about 9 bucks..

I never thought I would spend that much on DX.... 88 DOLLARS!

I guess I better save up since im spending another 30 bucks on making a lab PSU....

Im about to get much much poorer....

Thanks for the suggestions and if you have any more just tell me ;)

Thanks and, yeah sorry for not actually saying anything about knives from DX specifically, I just consider this to be much better choice, since it's also damn cheap anyhow, and I'd bet it's far greater build quality than 90% of stuff you find at DX.

Also, if you want to get knives as a hobby, besides Infinitus who appears to be very knowledgeable, you may want to contact Jeffreythe00 , he's into knives as much as into lasers, and knows a lot about them. He guided me through the selection of my knife, out of some 20-30 possibilities and 5-6 manufacturers, finally settled for S&W CK5TBS. Guy has a $250 Every day carry knife :p

Heh, im not that interested in knives but I thought it would be nice to have one just for everyday use

The reason I want to order from DX is because it will hopefully have a higher chance of getting through customs with all the other orders along side.

I might decide on something around 16cm's instead but im not too sure ATM

$9.28 - Carbon Steel Manual-Release Folding Knife with Clip (22cm Full-Length) - Knives & Tools
I got this one ( and a couple of others from DX )

pro's: feels sturdy and well made, came pretty sharp to!, and its a 2 side sharpened knife ( exept for the serated part ), lock works pretty good
Cons': gets dull verrrrry easy, rusts kinda fast...

all-in-all a pretty decent knife for the price, well worth the buy
just dont expect to much of it, i cant even compare it to the spyderco and benchmade knifes i have which stay sharp for much longer

Hmmm, I dont want a knife that looses its finish quickly.

I cant seem to decide which knife to pick... lol

I also must say that these "cheapy" dx knifes quickly get their coating scratched of but then again i have been abusing my knifes recently:eg:

When i get home i try to get some macro shots of the blade and show what i mean with the rusting and scratching

btw they do have some nice ceramic folding knifes to for a decent price i got one and its still sharp after using it almost daily ill look if i can find the link for you

i got this one http://www.dealextreme.com/p/horizo...elease-folding-knife-20-5cm-full-length-35027
and another one which i cant find, the one i linked get rusted on the handle pretty fast but thats of no problem as long as the blade stays sharp :)

Although scratched paint gives a nice "used" look :D

True.... i certainly dont buy knifes to keep them clean and nice ghehehe:san:

oh and if you deceide to get a ceramic knife be sure not use it as you would with a steel knife as it is brittle and wil break!

My EDC knife:

http://www.amazon.com/Spyderco-Centofante-4-Model-C66PBK4/dp/B000PL6EK4

Can be found somewhat cheaper:p

I find it's a perfect balance of price vs performance. 3" so it's legal to carry almost everywhere, and personally I like wharncliffe blades a lot.

The black finish getting scratched up is not something I really concern myself with. If you use a knife, there will be cosmetic wear, the big question is whether the knife will continue to function as it first did.

Obviously the cheaper knives also use cheaper steel. There are forums, and folks that go to extreme length about this... I'm not one of them. All I want is a good edge that lasts a reasonable about of time, and is not too hard to resharpen.

Personally not a fan of ceramic blades. Ever since the manufacturers started mixing in metal so they knives don't pass metal detectors, so they lost appeal to me.

Unfortunately as Xtrm2Rick already pointed out they are still quite brittle.

@Xtrm2Rick - Some fine sandpaper should do the trick for that rust.
