I present my new and improved LPM design: (Now a Release Candidate):san:

LPM is powered by a 3.3v LDO, So no crappy 9v batteries, and no boosting regulator in this LPM :D

The ADC and LDO are High quality, High accuracy, and Low noise.
made by Texas Instruments ;)

The LPM is also very efficient, Consuming just 60mA @ 4.2V (50% less power than a laserbee) :na:

Battery will be a 1200mAh Cell phone battery
Should be good for well over 10hr's per charge
A charging IC is also on board, The lpm is charged while datalogging

~5W max power
150 W/cm^2 Damage threshold :eg:

The Microcontroller at the heart of this LPM is the Atmega328,
USB is handled by an FTDI chip,
so if you feel like modding this lpm, it will be very easy :shhh:

And now the pics :)

Still to do:

Programing:
Add adjustments for accuracy across full 5W range (if needed)
Try Predictive Output (for faster results)
Program automatic Zeroing
Add Average and peak to display

Make a datalogging program :banghead:

Hardware:
Install zeroing switch
Install power switch

Very nice, and clean looking build!

If you're planning to sell these, only suggestion I have is, put the connections to any external parts, outside the case. (The wire going to tech and to/from USB.)

Any chance you want to trade for a 2.5W USB Laserbee when it's done :p ?

Wow!

Good job! That's a HUGE improvement from your hot-glue prototype. I'm glad to see competition in the LPM market, the LPM monopoly has been left unchallenged for too long :p

Just a suggestion to clean it up a little more, you can use an Audio cable like Jerry does on the sensor to make it detachable and cleaner looking + you can paint the TEC after it's glued on so that the glue will be painted black and is less visible.

I'll take one! and will be happy to help make a datalogging software package if you like.

Gimme a PM if you're ready to sell..

Thanks for the compliments everyone :D

I do still have some tiding up to do,
something like a headphone jack connector for the head is probably a good idea.

I am finding the acrylic to be very fragile, probably going to have a custom design that is more durable.

Also a question, What style of lpm would you rather have,
The Acrylic stand like I have here,
Or a more traditional Blackbox type lpm?

Either way I think I will need to have the case custom made for it to look good...

Yup I agree... Acrylic stand is pretty damn sexy. Also if you know anyone with a laser cutter... just get some laser cut :D
