That's great. I would volunteer to go over there and help rescue people, if there was a program like that. I don't believe that it's easy to get hooked up as rescuer though.

There were an earthquake in Iran a few years ago, the Danish search teams sent there to search for survivors in the rubble were delayed due to a shortage of transport aircrafts.

A journalist asked why they needed 40 tons of luggage for a few people with dogs.

The quite sensible answer were that they went there to be a help, not to be a burden, on an already stressed infrastructure. And it makes perfect sense, if your problem is feeding and housing 100.000's people it is not helpful if more people show up without their own tents, food and cooking gear.
 
There at about 200 Japanese transfer students that are at my local University with me. I hope nobody over here lost family members over there.
 
Even though they are very prepared, it is still devastating. Now with the nuclear reactor exploding it makes things even worse and if I could go and help I would. But since I can't I wish them all the best.
I have personally seen what radiation does to a person and it is nasty, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

This is so bad for any country. They are going to need a lot of help from the rest of us.
 
Nuclear meltdown happening in one or more reactors. Chernobyl type worldwide disaster. Germany has shut down some nuclear reactors. My guess is to investigate their shutdown safety mechanisms. Need to make sure that active reactors worldwide have properly tested their shutdown procedures, before it becomes necessary, due to some unforeseen accident.

Gosh german politicians, lobbies and protesters are so silly when it comes to nuclear power....:banghead:
France doesn't turn their reactors off, and nuclear disasters don't care much for national borders.:rolleyes:

Yes, I hope that you are right anselm. I know that the containment buildings are much more secure in Japan, than the "no-containment" type that Chernobyl used. It does look bad though with radiation levels rising in Tokyo at the moment. Keep that sea-water coming. Know what I mean? Gotta cool down those reactors bro. :beer:
 
Japan needs to hurry up and assemble an army.
If the nuclear plants go, there won't be a Japan left.
Should it come to that, they should begin a mass invasion of North Korea to establish a New Japan.
 
Thats a little extreme, don't you think? Sounds like something my little sister would say. She always brings thing over-the-top.
 
That's a tough situation and I have to salute the workers at the power plants, who are risking their lives to get it under control. :beer:
