Issues with LaserGlow

So you're saying it was purchased this year then and it isn't a really old laser?

Look, I accepted the risks and now I'm taking the consequences, and that's fine, that's just how life is. I accept that the laser is underperfoming, that's the risk you take with these sort of things. I'm NOT interested in why it's underperfoming, I just want to know why I was told different information from different LaserGlow representatives.

I was told after the laser has been checked over by LaserGlow that it was a 250mW very old unit. That got me confused because you said it was a 325mW fairly new unit, that's why I made this thread. Now you're telling me again that you were right before. So why was I told differently after the laser was checked out? I can quote the emails where I was told that it was a 250mW, very old unit, if you don't believe it.

That "other person" would be me ;)

I purchased a "scratch and dent" special that was suppose to be doing 150mw; when I receive the laser, it meters at 50ish mw and mode hops like a mofo. At that point, it really should have been a full refund or free repair. I paid for and was supposedly sold a 150mw, I expect at least 150mw; regardless of the "sold as is" status.

I paid $50 for repairs plus shipping both ways and I end up sitting for 8 months before I get the laser. This "repaired laser" has a different serial number and a completely different body type; I'm told that it was "rebodied". I am not calling anyone a liar but I have my doubts. There was absolutely no paperwork regarding the output power, etc. The so called "repaired unit" turned out to be underspec and I have since sold it off at a loss.

I was told that the delays were caused by the head laser technician who managed to create a huge backlog of unrepaired lasers. TBH, this is stupid; What kind of employee can get away with not repairing (at least) 8 months worth of lasers? That itself already indicative of very poor management; couple that with bad communication and you have a disaster.

As for my experience, I got close to $450 tied up for 8 months only to receive the same POS I sent off to get repaired. The shitty thing is that I really needed the $450 at the time, I ended up pulling overtime during my final exams to make ends meet. My final verdict; 3 thumbs down.

It sure has (like, arrived an hour ago)! And that leads me to another point I should make.

I don't have any issues with the quality of LaserGlow's products, that's certainly not in question. If I had any doubts I wouldn't of purchased that Herc 400 after I found the old Herc wasn't up to spec. Now that I've got the Herc 400 I'm very happy with it, and it eases the pain of the other Herc, lol.

I mean I'm not trying to discredit LaserGlow here, I'm trying to find out what happened so if there were any mistakes that occurred with that old Herc fiasco that can be fixed in the future.

I left the unit on for over 20 minutes and it didn't make a difference. By mode hopping, I mean operating in modes that aren't even on the charts. To say the least, it was bad/unusable.
 
LOL that's because it went back to CNI and was exchanged for a different unit. Dimitry does not repair these lasers, CNI does. Shipping back to China takes time. ;)

And just to kick me while I'm down, the new Herc 400 is now mode hopping. This is causing the beam to hit the aperture and cause dot artifacts, losing lots of power.

All the shipping costs with warranty shipping back and forth from Australia will cost hundreds, adding to the huge pile of costs this has caused which is starting to reach $4000. I can't return it for money because it's past the 7 day money back period.

$4000 spent for a mode hopping laser outputting 200mW. Fuck you LaserGlow.
 
Oh god, this laser is cursed... I sent it back to be repaired for warranty, and it's been 3 weeks (expected delivery is about 1 week) and the tracking information only shows that it was lodged at a post office. I'm inquiring about it now, but no response yet.

If this package is lost it's not $4000 for a 400mW laser, it's $4000 for NOTHING. A big, bloody waste of time and money with nothing but a lighter wallet to show for it. I'm the unluckiest laserist in the world...

EDIT: Turns out LaserGlow just didn't inform me that it had arrived... I'm far too relieved that I didn't lose it to complain, lol. Still, I wonder why it didn't show up on the tracking... odd.

Murudai - If I where you, I would ask for a refund if possible. I had a whole load of money tied up for 8 months for some alleged "repairs". I end up getting a completely different unit (And was told that it was "rebodied") that was just as underpowered as the previous unit. I asked for a re-metering and they dared to ask $20 for it! I was offered no apology or compensation for this whole experience.

Trust me, you have a lot more at stake; back out of this deal (if it's possible) and spare yourself the fustration, wait and problems.
 
I'm really surprised -- but I don't neccessarily disbelieve; So far I've emerged unscathed and had good dealings with Laserglow. I've probably spent about that much with them all told, but you're talking about one laser here - they should be going the extra mile... (But then again they do sell $20,000 OEM lasers as well.)

Please do keep us updated on how the Herc 400 comes back... For $4000, Laserglow should be going out of their way to get you a near perfect laser... Hell, they say they test the Aries series for 10 minutes or so to make sure they're up to spec..

Did you tell them that you're detailing this situation on LPF? I know the LG guys do visit here... It could give you some leverage. (....not like $4000 shouldn't be enough leverage.)

I can definitely say that how your situation turns out will weigh into my future decisions to go with LG or wait for Glenn's CNI GBs. And I think that goes for a lot of people here on LPF.

Oh for fucks sake. Just got the Herc 400 back, this time a new head.

It's a bit underspec, the beam is hitting the aperture, it's mode hopping and the fan is broken, which caused it to overheat within about 10 minutes of constant use. So much for the worlds only 100% duty cycle portable laser! I tried it with several sets of batteries and it is very temperamental, sometimes working sometimes not working, although I will try that with a fresh set of batteries bought from the shops before I conclude anything.

Seems I'm having exactly the same issues as digital_blue. I don't know what to do, send it back and get a third laser? They're just jerking me around here. I could ask for store credit but $2000 worth of store credit from LaserGlow, that's a bit much, no idea what I'd spend it all on.
