Damn, I'm really sorry to hear that.
I was lucky when I mangled my hand that my surgeon (one of the two was a good guy) tried his hardest to put me back together.
The other one was more interested in playing with my mutilated remnants than he was in helping me (my dad actually tried to strangle him ^_^).
Your case is one of the reasons why research into stem cells NEEDS to be done, you obviously have some form of nerve damage and the research could dramatically improve your standard of living.
When one of my girlfriend's friends was pregnant my gf got a "stem cell kit" to collect whatever you do when the baby is born (I know NOTHING about it ). The doctor told her that he didn't feel like doing it so he just didn't. The kit was like $300 and it would have taken him 5 seconds.... A$$HOLE...
You know in the old movies when a woman was giving birth the doc always said "I need some warm water and towels"? That was to let her stretch more easily and pass the baby without tearing. These days a doctor will just let her tear because it is less effort for him and often go so far as to induce a woman if it is taking too long and he wants to go home. (happened to my mother).
This mentality is wrong, they are public servants that no longer serve the public.
*edit*
It's funny you should mention the pharmaceutical companies and the "$$ in the system". I was reading about cancer today and some of the "natural remedies" people have tried. Most of them are just funny but some actually did show some promise. Chemo is only something like 2% successful but the preferred treatment of most cancers. There were a few that showed up to 9% success but were quickly outlawed in the states. There are still others that have very good results and are illegal or not FDA approved (some have been in "testing" for 25+ years) but will never make it to a pharmacy because the patents are held by non-american companies.
There are trillions spent on pills worldwide, I guess it makes sense that the governments don't want to slaughter the cash cow even for the good of the people.
