Is the universe infinite or finite?

I cannot imagine the universe being finite. I believe that the void is infinite (space) because it is a vacuum, but whether or not there is infinite atoms in our universe is debatable in my opinion. Also, the uneven spacing and different star cluster densities suggest that the universe is finite in term of atoms it contains. One can oppose that theory by saying that if the universe was infinite, you would have an infinitely bright sky as every line of sight would eventually lead to a star. It's all about personal opinion I guess and the the most logical explanations usually tend to grab my attention although i really don't think this discussion will go anywhere because there is no definite answer...

Everything must eventually end.

Whether you believe in God or not you would think that everything had to have been created either by accident or on purpose. With that in mind the things that exist now are numbered because it would take forever and you could never finish creating new things.

However there is something that's infinite and that is nothingness. If there was an end to space then it would require a stopping point... a wall if you will. Meaning it would be something. And you could build off of that. So I think that the space is infinite itself because its the lack of something which requires time to make.

I'd like to mention something that's crossed my mind quite often. When you think about the chicken and the egg... you say maybe "the chicken came first" but then someone else states "Ah but chickens come from eggs so its the egg that came first" then the next reply would be "But eggs come from chickens". Its an endless loop that contradicts the fact that both come into the picture by creation. It would only make sense that at one point something that was already there created the starting point because infinity doesn't go backwards.

Please let me explain with an example of the soda can I am drinking out of about this time. The can is made of aluminum which came from a factory that gathered the materials from earth. The aluminum is made out of atoms and the atoms are made of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Those are made out of .... something. And that is made out of something.... you see it goes on seemingly forever which I believe would be impossible. There would have to be a starting point.

Um.... I think I went kinda to far from the subject didn't I? :yabbem:

At first the atom was considered undividable, but now even it's protons and neutrons can be divided. And why would this ever stop? Why aren't there an infinite number of stars? maybe out of reach of detection, but still why not? We can't comprehend infinite complexity, but I don't see a reason preventing this from existing.

And for the religious: If God created the universe, why hold back in complexity on us?

I tried to explain the reason. If there was no beginning then creation or existence itself could not be possible.
I once again bring up the chicken and egg example. The egg nor the chicken is capable of existing without the other to continue the cycle. Because of that not one of them can stand alone. If you were to choose which one comes first the logical one would be the Chicken. It suggest that the chicken was created and the ones who have lived and died all the way up to now are from that one. Now if its endless going backwards from the past neither would support each other.... there has to be a beginning. Time moves forward not backwards.

If you understand this line of thought then you can also assume that there would require one "thing" or "life form" that never needed creation. It's the only explanation at least that's how I feel. This "thing" or "being" would also be the one who created the very idea of creating, or existence for that matter.

How many numbers between 1 and 2? An endless amount. Space is endless. It doesn't need creating because its nothing to begin with.

Um.... I feel if I think anymore about nothingness I will disappear

I think it is Finite but adds on to itself every second.

EDIT: Not every day, every second.

At my age, it's finite -- I'll never see anything bigger.
Now which one of you is gonna' pay my obama health care? THAT'S finite to me.
Someone get a job and pay the BIG taxes.
