My ipod video's 30gb hardrive broke recently.:'( I have heard about the psp3000 and how it has wi-fi capabilities, can play videos, music, and games. ;D  It also has a bigger screen than the ipod.  In order to repair my ipod a new hardrive would cost about $250 :o. I dont want to try to install a new hardrive myself as the parts are very small and difficult to work with. I could buy a psp3000 ($170) and case, and games ect... for less than a new ipod.  Im wondering which I should get an ipod or a psp3000.

mp4 is video files... why not just buy a screen and replace the ipod hdd your self? its not too hard.

PSP 3000 can't be "pandorized" and you'll have a nearly useless piece of fail. (a gaming console... but without all the other functins given by the scene which makes this console a great choice)

You can either:

-Wait untill haxxors can breack PSP3000 security (it'll be probably long time)
-Buy a PSP 2000 BEING SURE that it has 3.95 firmware (hard to find)
-Buy that Ipod

They did crack the psp-3000 but they're keeping it to themselves for now to see if they can find an alternate exploit so they'll have a backup if it gets patched. It's only a matter of time before they release it. Also this bootleg 16gb ipod touch is only $60 and made of pure WIN!

So does to psp 3000 not have all the functions people say it has because you cant hack it? What are its limitations without being able to hack the firmware?

no homebrew. no ISO loader. that is all. lol

Sorry to sound dumb but what is ISO?
it's an "image" of a disc. it's what you get when you copy a disc to your computer. with custom firmware you can load them. so it's a piracy issue and whatnot.

You could always buy an older PSP off ebay or something. I have a PSP 1000 (phat) and run custom firmware. Sucks though cause I broke the screen recently (awaiting a new one from DX)

It seems like it may be a better deal to get the psp 3000 and just wait for the firmware hack. A psp 2000 cost the same amount as a psp 3000

Meh, the only differences are it's a bit thinner, has a faster UMD drive (useless for playing homebrew/umd isos), and component output (mabe good for movies but pointless for gaming - it's a handheld, why use it with a tv?)

I will see how many more votes I get on the poll but I will probly get the 3000

Nope, FAIL. It hasn't been cracked completely yet. They have a kernel and usermode exploit, meaning that you could load something like old devhook or at least a homebrew enabler. But sony could always patch it... It won't be fully cracked until pre IPL is decrypted and hacked so pandora or something similar works for it. That day, common custom firmwares would be available for 3000 and sony won't be able to patch anything until new mobo design arrives.

However, custom firmware is not all about homebrew and iso's, it's also about being able to over/underclock the PSP, enabling the 4th brightness level, making it region free, PSX emulator....

And homwbrew is about emulators, very good ones, video and audio formats support, text reading.... and stuff like that which makes the PSP a good choice.

I didn't fail, idiot, you did. It IS cracked regardless of there being pandora or not. There was no pandora for the first half of the PSP's lifetime but it was still hacked. Also there IS a HEN. That's what I was talking about.
