In Need of Good Glasses!

With my 300mW 532nm having been payed for now, I was browsing around the forums for another option if the "Cheap Safety Glasses" (link in my siggy) don't work out after I test them, when I came across the stickied thread about an LPF member who took a shot to the eye, for not even 1 second, from a 1000mW beam. The pictures are pretty horrifying, and I'm glad it was stickied. It made me get a lot more serious about my eye protection. I won't post the pictures here, but if you'd like to see them his thread is stickied in the "Safety & Legal Issues" section.

Now, that being said, I can't get some crazy $200 pair of glasses, even if they are important. There isn't a lot of extra cash for me to throw around, and the 300mW laser I'm ordering alone was too much for me to afford right now. So, could someone provide me with a link to a pair of goggles (Or two, if necessary) that will cover this 300mW 532nm, as well as a future 1.5W+ 445nm that I plan to get.

As far as I'm aware, "Eagle Pair" is the top notch stuff for laser use, but before I browse around on my own, I figured I'd see if anyone else has any suggestions or opinions for me.

Besides, I got an opportunity to share a link to a good cause. :shhh:

I would recommend Eagle Pair as you mentioned. Work well and are one of the bests available!

You can get certified ARG-filter goggles at Aixiz for $85 each. I've got those ARG filter goggles and it's probably the most useful filter you can buy for visible wavelengths 532nm and below. They also have a very high VLT (the light you CAN see) of about 48%.

I have no idea if the Laserglow goggles are actually certified to laser protection standards ANSI Z136, or EN 207, but I do know the ARG filter goggles are. The Eagle pair goggles are supposedly pretty decent as well.

If you're only going to use those 532nm lasers with guest, you can also get those red laser enhancement goggles . They work almost too well for green. They're uncomfortable, hard to see through (low VLT), and I don't trust them for 445nm, but they're really cheap and good to just have guests enter the room before you make sure everything is safe.

I bought the eagle pair that's listed in my sig (you can find them easily on survival laser) and so far they've taken everything I've thrown at them. They were about $55 I think, and I got these specific ones to make sure they also blocked IR, should I acquire leaky lasers in the future and be sure my eyes were still protected.

They do the job very well, the dazzling green "dot" of my 100mW is reduced to a tiny spot of light (think <1mW red cat toy on a dark carpet kind of thing) and I can shine the laser around the room, even at those ornamental crystal things, without any worry that I'm going to get hit in the eye.

The one thing I am slightly dubious about is their claim to protect down to 190nm; reason being my 405nm laser "pen" actually has a brighter "dot" through these glasses than my HL-100. It's not brighter by much, but coupled with the fact that I can still see a very small amount of light from a UV torch I have, makes me think the protection these glasses offer at the lower end of the scale isn't quite as good as towards the green end.

The real test will be when I use a high powered 445 and see how bright the dot is through these glasses; but for certain that is one laser I WONT be shining around willy nilly, even with these glasses on.

As a closing comment I would warn you OP that the 300mW might take you by surprise, so please don't switch it on inside the house without your safety glasses either on, or just above your nose ready to be dropped into place. My 100mW is still very hard to shine around the house without finding the dot too bright (even on some carpets) and generally I don't do it anymore unless I'm intentionally pointing it at my beamstop to admire the beam, THEN I remove the glasses. It's unfortunate but these lasers are no joke and I'd rather 90% of the time not see its output than accidentally blind myself. I didn't even use my HL-100 very much until my glasses arrived, and no way in hell did I even attempt burning - I'd probably have gotten arc-eye at the very least.
