I vote that Glenn's foggy night beam shots are about the best pix of that kind that have EVER been posted on LPF. Who's gonna vote YES with me ????? rob

Here is a 5W 577nm unit. (My iPhone doesn't show the color at all)

And a little more...

I think he means that he took the pictures with his iPhone and it can't properly capture the true color.

Sorry if I was unclear, my phone does not capture the color correctly. The true color is like a golden yellow, much like a brass color.

Just got my yellow pointer from Glenn's GB yesterday... (thanks Glenn!) :)

So here's another yellow beam:

Here's a yellow I am working on for a stage laser.
30mW 532nm mixed with 100mW 655nm
CombinedYellow.jpg

The yellow beam has a red halo around it because I am using a rayfoss 30mW green module with a very narrow beam, and a 100mW rayfoss TTL red that has a fat beam. :cryyy:

Here is a pic of the plastic sled from a DVD player that I used to combine the beams.

A picture of the dot at about 40 feet. It looks mostly yellow, but with red halos. :(

can someone explain to me the physics in pure yellow (not mixed) pointers? Or link me to it, I know how green works, but not blue or yellow.

for green its the KTP and Nd:YAG or Nd:YVO4 and the proces is SHG in the blue its the same proces but insted of the 1064nm line be converterd its a different one (carnt remeber at the moment) and thas then SHG using a LBO crystal i think , lager pump powers are needed to achive high power blue , for yellow the proses is sum frequency gernoration (SFG) this is when 2 IR wavelenghts are fed into the crystal then they both go through the proces resultion in one output wavelenght .

I carnt remember the wavengths used but i think this is the was blue and yellow work i think

hope this helps

All the best

DPSS blue is the same process as DPSS green basically. Only instead of :

808-1064-532 ( KTP or LBO can be used for doubling, KTP is more common for lower end lasers )

You have

808-946-473 ( LBO will be used for doubling here )

With yellow Sum Frequency Generation is used.

In this we have two lots of SHG and then your SFG :

808-1064+1342-532+671

then SFG:

532+671-594

Of course, there are other ways to produce DPSS yellow, but for the pointers that we would have this is the way it's done.

For Bens 5W 577nm OPSL it's a bit more like normal DPSS, only instead of pumping a YAG/Vanadate an Optically Pumped Semi-conductor chip is pumped with 808 and then the output from that is frequency doubled using a KTP or LBO ( Depending on the desired output wavelength )
